Updates     24 February, 2007, 05:47 pm
We've been looking at some interesting weather for the weekend for about a week and they've wishy-washied the whole time. But we're about 5 hours out now and they're calling for 8-12 inches or 12+ (I'm on the border line). I'm so excited! A real snowstorm for Wisconsin. I was afraid we'd see spring without a real snowstorm this year. Silly me. I did my grocery shopping this morning and ran to the library and the post office.

I'm a little buggered about that post office bit. See, in my apartment complex the mailboxes are tiny so when the postman leaves my Netflix DVDs on the counter, they disappear. The manager could do nothing (as I expected) and the post office would do nothing. The third postal person I spoke to suggested the police, but I can imagine where that will go - nowhere, quickly. I love it when three units all refer a person to the other. So I drew up a note to have the postman leave my items at the post office if they do not fit in the locked box. Now they may share the problem with me. But I think I will get a PO box at the post office like two blocks from work. Because 20 minutes on a snowy Saturday morning is like 30 or 40 minutes on a weekday around quitting time.

Oh, this is a knitting blog? I started the ripping my sweater. It's a painstaking process since the cat likes to help. I ripped the first ball's worth and hanked it. I tried to ballwind it today, twice actually, before giving up and winding by hand. I kept letting the yarn get caught under the ball holder. My yarn was starting to show wear so I gave up and wound by hand. I just cast on and will start knitting tonight.

I knit with plastic needles all week and my red ouchy finger bumps are on their way out. This is sad. I like my metal needles best, so unless it gets really bad I'll just keep on keeeping on, y'know?

The Death of the BBS     18 February, 2007, 08:25 pm

This is not the best picture, but on top is a sweater that fits well (around at least, I wish it were longer) and beneath is the Big Boring Sweater. As you can see, one is a little wider than the other, about 6 inches total. Bigger is better than smaller, but I know if I keep going I just really won't be happy with it. I will check gauge to make sure that isn't the problem and then I plan to rip and try the next smaller size. So sad. Maybe the third time will be the charm. I don't know if I want to restart right away though. I miss socks, and I'd like to start a doily for the Herbert Niebling KAL. And I'd reallly like to finish that shawl that I started Jan-06. But if I don't restart right away I might lose my motivation. Ho-hum.

Update     15 February, 2007, 11:23 pm
Hrm, later than I usually post. I had quite a bit of caffeine today.. I'm tired but my brain's still babbling. All that babble up there helped me change my wired DSL to wireless. I think I need to rearrange the living room now that I can take my laptop anywhere.

In knitting new, the baby sweater won out and I'm back at my favorite KP&S baby cardigan pattern, in a pale-ish yellow this time. I don't much like yellow for babies but that's what the liquidation store had last time I went.

The BBS grew a little bit this week. Hopefully I can finish the body this weekend.

I wound pretty yarn for socks last weekend already but haven't gotten a chance to get them on the needles.

I'm a bit behind on my 3-squares-a-day so I need to catch up on those this weekend, too. I was doing so well up until this week. Ever wonder where the time goes?

I'm a little worried. Halfway through February and the best signs of winter so far were 3 inches of snow and a week of frigid temps. Don't care for the frigid temps but I would really like a good snowstorm.

Here's a picture of the CIC socks, unblocked.

I'm working on the BBS. I did the waist shaping today. Not as much as it sounds, just dropping needle sizes. Sooo that leaves 6 inches on the body and some loong sleeves. I'm debating if I want to start a baby sweater or a CIC sweater.

Monkey pattern is from Knitty. I dig these socks. The yarn is Regia.

Eh, I was planning on trying one of the toe-up sock patterns I mentioned the other day but now I'm thinking it'd be nice to try one of the handpaints that has been marinating in my stash. So many yummy yarns to try..

It is 5 below with a windchill of 26 below which makes it a little nippy. I think I'll stay inside tomorrow. I've been rearranging furniture and I exposed a Crystal Light stain from like, September. Back then I tried dish soapy water and Resolve. I ran to get Folex. Now what? Spot the rest of the carpet so it matches? *shrug* There was a question to this effect on Yahoo! Answers and I don't think anyone that answered actually has experience with this stain.

Look at these pretties! And the pattern for Six Sox KAL just came out too. Good timing. Did I mention my Monkey socks are finished? There's a picture waiting on the camera but I'm getting lazy..

Both of those patterns are toe up. Maybe it's time to sit down and figure that one out.. This weekend we're expecting frigid temps and wind chill here in Wisconsin so I'll be staying inside probably playing couch potato this weekend. Fire up the sewing machine or figure out toe-up socks? I just stocked up on clearance Christmas fabric for some stockings.

I just finished the decreases on the toddler socks for CIC so they should be a quick finish. The BBS (big boring sweater) hasn't grown since last weekend.

Erm, and the cat chewed through my worsted wool tonight. Then he started swallowing. I need to find a way to secure all my projects in progress. Heaven forbid he eats the stuff while I'm at work. I've heard the horror stories of yarn-eating cats.

Here are my Monkey socks. I'm really close to starting the toe. I'm stalled on those because I picked up my big boring sweater for knit night and have been working on that since.

This is the big boring sweater (BBS). I just set up the armholes and I'm set to work on the body. I think it would be a good time to try it on but I don't really feel like taking all those stitches off the needles.

These are socks for CIC. I'm working out a basic pattern for teaching the magic loop as well as timing myself.

Since we're almost to the end of the month I thought I'd reflect on my goals. Hrm, what were they again?

1. Save money.

Pretty well, I think. I did buy some much un-needed yarn, but other than that my purchasing has been restrained. It does feel good.

2. Be more active.

Yes. I did my in-home walking DVD minus like 4 days, mostly surrounding when I wasn't feeling well. I'm really disappointed that my bicycle still is not fixed. I waited four weeks for the part and according to the website, I will be waiting 3 more weeks. Customer service suggested I call back Monday to get the whole scoop. At this point, I think I would just really like my money back. This is ridiculous. 7 weeks for a part. That's over half of my warranty period. Waiting for one part. For the cost of the part and labor, they would be better off replacing my bicycle, not to mention how much faster that would be. Psst. Sears. Careful.

3. Improve my knitting technique.

Erm, not so much.. I've just been er, busy? I'm sort of waiting for the fair categories to come out so I can plan some projects.

On another note, my last two Netflix movies just plain haven't arrived. Or have they? They don't fit in my mail box so they lay on the counter, woefully available to any sticky fingers. *sigh* Maybe I can get a PO box before I get suspended..

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
