Socks     25 August, 2004, 00:06 am

I was excited so I actually finished the ends tonight. The longer one is a bit more loosely knitted. They're comfy though. :) Pokie wanted to help with the picture..

Shopping     24 August, 2004, 08:39 pm
I hit the yarn shop and got the rest of my Encore Colorspun and finished my socks, except for kitchener stitching the toe and weaving ends in. I will take a picture once I've got those done. That's my absolute least favorite part of knitting so it may be a couple weeks :) They don't appear to be quite the same length. Oops.

I also got a leaflet of afghans, I forgot what it's called. Something about Colorful Afghans.. Like I need another book of afghans. But there's some neat ones in there. I picked up some Lamb's Pride for a pair of mittens. It's sort of a light grey. I wanted a dark grey but the pickings were a bit slim.

At Ben Franklin I picked up some Sugar n Cream for the dishcloth exchange and I got needles for my dad's hat. Except I got 24" circulars instead of 16" so those will need to go back.. hopefully before next Tuesday.

I feel only slightly guilty. After spending nearly half a grand on books for this semester today, the money I spent on knitting stuff seems like mere pennies.

Speaking of school, I read in someone's blog that their campus has a knitting group. I'm tossing around looking into starting a "club" on my campus. I have no idea what's involved.. and if it's worth it my senior year.

This cell phone bag looks kinda cute. I don't like the fringes or the color, but I might have to try it.

Sitch markers and Mill Ends     23 August, 2004, 10:57 pm

My first attempt at stitch markers. I like them. Sorry about the crappy picture. My main disappointment is the cheap tool I bought at Wal-mart. The wire cutting portion doesn't cut and the springs aren't functioning correctly. I got what I paid for, I suppose.

My mill ends from Aunt Mary's Yarns came today. I'm a tad disappointed. When I ordered 3 pounds over the phone the lady suggested they'd be mostly navy blue. Mostly is an understatement. I have 7 large skeins of navy blue. I'm still deciding whether to make an afghan for Project Linus or "snuggles" for my local animal shelter and/or some hats for Caps for Kids.

Redheart Yarns     22 August, 2004, 02:31 pm
Now before you go making ugly faces hear me out.

Every time I'm in the Wal-mart craft department I fondle the Redheart Supersaver, just to make sure it still feels coarse and icky. I'm a sucker for cheap yarn, but it has to feel okay. I used it once when I first started knitting to practice purling. After I was done practicing, I threw the blob and the rest of the skein in the garbage. Still can't beat 88 cents for some practice material.

But recently I read a few comments from people who said it gets softer after the first washing or three. So I've decided to try it. I will make something small, perhaps a hat or mittens, and wash & dry to see what happens.

Socks     21 August, 2004, 09:06 pm
I'm on my second sock of the pair I started in July - my first pair of socks. I finished the heel but I think I will run out of yarn before I finish the toe. I'm ripping my "sample" sock and using that yarn, which will hopefully be enough. I wanted to finish these over the weekend but if I run out of yarn it won't be until mid-week. Oh well. I'm done knitting tonight anyway as my wrist isn't cooperating.

The fine folks at Patti's Yarn Shop in Green Bay gave me a lesson and helped me find everything I needed for my first socks. Without them I still wouldn't have experienced the joy of sock-knitting..lol.

Tonight we went to Wal-mart to find yarn for my dad's stocking hat. He picked black Simply Soft by Caron. I think I'll end up doubling it.

Tallying things up, I've only two unfinished projects. I'm not sure what I'll start next. I should probably get to the dishclothes soon.

..and the dog just chewed up my little box of stitch markers. Guess that means it's time to start on those beaded stitch markers.

Hat     20 August, 2004, 01:35 pm

This, kids, is my first hat. It is supposed to be a child's size but it is more than sufficiently large to fit me. I'm not sure whether that means I have a small head or children these days have large heads. Wait - I guess that would be the same thing wouldn't it. I lost a few stitches somewhere but it turned out looking okay anyway.. except for my uneven ribbing :) Made with Playmouth Encore.

Exchanges     19 August, 2004, 10:33 pm
Alright, I just joined a dishcloth exchange. It includes 10 of us who will knit a dishcloth for each of the others on the list. This will be interesting. The 9 squares must be mailed by December.

It got me thinking. I think a beaded stich marker exchange would be fun. I'm not sure if anyone else would be interested but..

Anyway, now I must find yarn for those dishclothes and I've nearly used all my cottons >:)

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
