Slippers & Dishclothes     30 August, 2004, 08:21 am
I just realized since the yarn is doubled that two skeins probably won't be enough >:\ Maybe I can find some scraps for stripes..

I finished my first dishcloth. It is about an inch too large, length and width-wise. Stripes were probably a bad idea. I hate finishing ends, but I did them... and they all poke out :( I think it might be the cotton yarn. The ends do the same thing on the other dishclothes I've made but when there's only two it's not that noticeable. Any suggestions from the gallery?

I found another pattern knit sort of diagonally, where you start with four stitches, increase a bunch, decrease the same bunch, and end with four. I think it will be a lot easier 'cause I can just knit until it's the size I want and all four sides will magically be the same :)

I'm really excited. I just figured out what I'm going to do with the two balls of green wool I got at a going out of business sale. I'm making felted slippers. I hope I have enough. It doesn't really say how much you need.. nor does it give a gauge, or a finished size. Gosh. This is gonna be like a big ol' experiment. I don't like felting experiments. Maybe I should keep looking for a pattern... *ponders*

Splurging     28 August, 2004, 05:05 pm
Eek. I just purchased a set of Denise Interchangeable needles on eBay. After hearing good things about them and getting sick of spending so much on needles, I decided it was time. I was going to wait until Christmas and drop a hint for my parents but my near-future plans include so many needles I don't have.

I'm also "helping" someone clean out her stash at a dollar per skein. 22 balls should be arriving soon.. Some brands I've never heard of, but a nice mix of wools, acrylics, and a bit of cotton. Worsted and chunky weights. Actually, I don't think I've ever used any of them, so this will be fun.

And a question. What do people do with the hank-ish things of yarn, such as those from my previous post? I once used Cascade 220 and got a large tangled mess. Are balls the way to go?

Knitting progress is limited to a "secret project." I'm nearly finished, but pictures won't be provided until after the gift is received in a few weeks here.. just in case they're snooping. :)

Redheart Test     27 August, 2004, 10:13 am
After sending the hat through the washer and dryer twice, with fabric softener, I feel very little difference. My verdict? Super saver is good for unwearables such as teddy bear sweaters, winter hats, Christmas stockings.. you get the picture. I think I'll use the rest up on snuggles for critters. It is really colorfast though. That's about all it's good for :) Guess we'll stick to Caron Simply Soft.

My wool from eBay should arrive today. Apparently there was a delay. I'm excited. It will be made into a Kitty Pi. I think I will use it for a yarn basket since my home is owned by dogs and birds.

I've started my first dishcloth for the exchange. It is about a half inch longer than it's supposed to be. Hopefully the recipient won't mind. It's kind of cute, but again, hopefully the recipient thinks so..lol. I know I have odd tastes sometimes.

Second Hat     25 August, 2004, 10:43 pm

This is the second hat, made with Redheart and the same pattern from before (Gotcha Covered, Coats & Clark website). I had the same two problems as the last hat.

Number one, it's too big. This is toddler sized and it just barely fit on my head, which runs just under 22 inches in circumference. I believe the pattern suggested a 16 inch head..haha. My swatches were on both times so I'm thinking the pattern is off.. or people like really loose hats?

Number 2, when it comes to the decreases, I run out of stitches on the first row of decreasing. This time I counted before beginning to be sure I started with the correct number of stitches. Same result. I would also like to blame that on the pattern but there's a good chance I'm doing something wrong with my decrease rows. :)

This is also my Redheart Supersaver test piece. I will run it through the wash tomorrow to see if it softens up. Let you all know what hapens.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
