Stash un-reduction     8 November, 2004, 11:41 pm
I finished the Fuzzy Feet and they are partway felted. I didn't know how much hot water that used until I tried to take a shower. So maybe I can finish them tonight. That used another ball of yarn, but I ordered some. >:| Elann had worsted highland peruvian wool at 2.25 a ball and many colors to choose from! I couldn't resist. I ordered 3 balls for my hat and mitten set in the Ink color. I hope it's as soft and lucious as they say it is. Today was a blatant reminder that I need to get those started. It was in the upper 20s when I left for school. Brr.

I read an article in the paper, asking knitters and crocheters to make hats and mittens for the elderly and disabled. I emailed them for more information but have yet to hear back. I have the perfect ball of chunky Mary Maxim Cloudspun in a pretty green color. As soon as I hear back I will dig up a hat pattern for it.

I've also finished the second-to-last dishcloth for the exchange. I need to whip up one more and then I will send them all off. I've only received one of the 9, but we have 3 or so weeks yet. I hope this turns out to be a good experience..

Fuzzy Foot & Meetup     5 November, 2004, 11:04 am
I finished a Fuzzy Foot, except for the toe. I put the mittens in the same picture. The Foot is about a foot long. The mittens are maybe 4 inches x 3 inches. And the dogs had to check things out..

And since that took a ball of yarn, I'm down to 8 to use before buying anew :)

The meetup! It went well. The woman I met was better at making conversation than I, fortunately. I must say, when she pulled out big kureyon I was thinking, "oh no, she's gonna laugh at my Bernat HandiCrafter cotton" but she was really down to earth and interesting to talk to. I nearly drooled on her yarn. We decided not to put much effort into another meetup until after the holidays, when hopefully we can gather more of the 10 members. I wish the free version allowed direct emails. ^.^ We met at Barnes & Noble, which turned out to be out of the way for the both of us. Maybe next time we'll try a new location. Might be time to check out the 15 or so little coffee shops Meetup.com has listed.

On scraps. I have a number of teeny tiny balls of yarn. Y'know, the 10 yards left when you're done with a project. What does one do with these? I'd hate to throw them out. Maybe I could make itty bitty mittens for the humane society cats..?

Mittens & Meetup     3 November, 2004, 03:41 pm
at least this time he won the popular vote. *closes mouth*

I finished a pair of mittens - the mini decorative ones. Although using the same yarn & needles for both, one is wider than the other..lol. I bought a hat and mitten pattern to make a wooly set to match my new jacket, but now I'm worried. I'm pretty picky, and if one is tighter than the other, that will just annoy me to no end. Maybe I can knit them at the same time. The socks that aren't quite the same size don't bother me too much 'cause I can put them on in the morning and forget them. Can't wait to pick yarn for those, but they're waiting until I finish the dinosaur jacket. I just knit my swatch but I need to find my 5s and have another go at it. I haven't used 100% acrylic for awhile and going back to it isn't a great feeling :o

I have yet to start my brother's present. It may not happen until two days before Christmas. If that's the case, I will let him know what I'm up to so he doesn't feel forgotten on Christmas day..lol.

And the best news? We finally got a meetup together on Meetup.com! I'll admit, it's only one knitter and I. She mentioned we should generate ideas to get more people together. I most definitely agree. Although there are 10 of us, I've only seen 2 other people active - either RSVPing or posting on the boards. That is a sad state. My emails are not rousing them, so I'm leaning toward finding more members.

Oh, I found a garment I want to make. I think it's called Bridget. It's a collared wrap cardigan thingy with a belt. It's in a Jo Sharp book. The only place I've found the book is Fuzzy Mabel. I don't want to buy the book at full price for one pattern so I've bookmarked it for a later date. On the buying note, I'm working on a laptop for school. It will be the biggest purchase to date, aside from my First Car. So you know what that means. Further penny pinching ~.~ But it's almost a must. That will give me time to use up the yarn I have, I guess :)

Caps for Kids     30 October, 2004, 10:13 pm
...is frustrating me. No less than three months ago they were sent a self-addressed-stamped-envelope as requested to provide me with a list of local drop off places. You think they could take five minutes to fold a list, shove it in the envelope, lick the flap, and drop it in the outgoing mail? Apparently not. And really, when you have a whole big website, how hard is it to include the list on one page? I was plotting to publish the list on my website, but that won't be happening either. As it is, I have better causes to support if that's the way they handle donations. Hmmpf.

On that note, snuggles are incredibly fast when crocheted. I learned single and double crochet and can finish a snuggle in perhaps 2 hours. Of course, that is double stranded with an M hook. Also, I found out my yarn shop accepts squares for Warm Up America. So smaller scraps will be used for those. The squares are taken to the local Salvation Army where ladies put them together. While at the shop, I found three books of dog sweaters. My parents have been asking for one for awhile. The second of our dogs is barrel-chested in a mean way. To get a store-bought sweater large enough to go around her chest usually means it falls right off her as she walks. I found the cutest dinosaur sweater so she will get that. According to the measurements, my petite beagle needs a large. I will be shortening the back a bit, hopefully the rest works out.

I completed one of the mittens from the Women's Day mag. I don't like the way I finished the seams. It took me a long time to figure out the things are folded = my previous notes about the mitten being as big as my hand. I need to make a couple pairs of these and save them for my future tree. ~.~ I think I will make my parents some since my mom thought they were really cute.

New Shop     28 October, 2004, 01:37 pm
Two of my classes were cancelled today which left me with the realization that I could actually get to the new shop while it's open. Good points: lending library, two comfy-looking chairs, binder of free patterns they will photo copy for you, classes, seemingly polite owner, similar prices to other shops I've been to. Poor points: small and not cramped = not great selection of yarn, or supplies, for that matter. They do carry yarn that's um, homegrown. Alpaca and wool from a neighboring town. It looks quite lovely, and at $16.00/hank, it should :) I'm hoping it will get more cramped as time goes on. I love walking into small shops with that "slightly overflowing" look.

I didn't speak to the owner(?) as she was speaking to her daughter and we both left about the same time. Maybe with her help we could get a meetup going in my very own town.

Lacking real content, you get this.

Knitting Adventurer
You appear to be a Knitting Adventurer.
You are through those knitting growing pains and
feeling more adventurous. You can follow a
standard pattern if it's not too complicated
and know where to go to get help. Maybe you've
started to experiment with different fibers and
you might be eyeing a book with a cool
technique you've never tried. Perhaps you
prefer to stick to other people's patterns but
you are trying to challenge yourself more.
Regardless of your preference, you are
continually trying to grow as a knitter, and as
well you should since your non-knitting friends
are probably dropping some serious hints, these
days.

Clothes for Teddy Bears     24 October, 2004, 09:05 pm
http://www.cubsforkids.com/ I wanna do that. Doesn't it look fun? Designing clothes with stripes and patterns and funky colors, that no one will ever have to wear. But first I must finish my brother's Christmas present. I will make an exception to my mailing rule. Mostly because I doubt teddy bear clothes are very heavy. I'm thinking I could send a few outfits for just a couple dollars. And I can use any kind of cheap yarn hanging around here because no one will be wearing it. I will try to use the soft stuff, though, 'cause the kids might wanna love on it. :)~

With the help of my mother I figured out my crochet boo-boo that was producing a trapezoid shape. The cats won't mind, though.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
