is done! Well, not technically. I need to finish one end and weave in all ends, then it will be done. I like it, a lot. :) Hope my brother does.

Stocking Knit-Along, anyone?
14 January, 2005, 12:39 am
Is anyone out there interested in a stocking knit-along?
Personally.. I've been wanting to knit a stocking since the summer but never got around to it. I figure if I start now and have the work of others to inspire me, I'll have a real live finished stocking by Christmas.

Meetup & Stash Organization
13 January, 2005, 10:52 am
Ah, lost another member of the knitting meetup group. At least this time it was one of the "inactives." In a way it is a good thing. I think it looks bad to have 11 members and no activity. I think it would send new members the wrong impression. Of course, I could be wrong. So now there are 9 of us. We had 3 RSVPs today but two were "Maybe," not motivating enough to have me driving up there to sit in a coffee shop by myself hoping someone else shows up. I think I'll just continue setting up events every week or two weeks at different times and hopefully eventually we get some people involved and schedules coming together.
Started corking stash into a storage bin that fits under my bed. At this rate I will need two more. Ha, not happening! I believe I'll compromise with two storage bins. All remaining yarn will lay around my room until it gets used. I was actually thinking the situation wasn't so bad when I suddenly realized there were still two bags in my car ~.~ I started knitting with one ball of stash when I realized it will be too fuzzy/itchy for a baby's head (at least, I wouldn't wear it) and too nice for the dogs. Four balls will be posted on a Yahoo! group for postage tomorrow. Oh, there's also 4 shoe boxes full of yarn, but they hold specialty stuff like sock yarn, dishcloth cotton, ball ends..
I have five days, including today, left of my winter break. Lets revisit the winter break goals, which, to be fair, were a little much.
1. My brother's Xmas present.
2. Mittens of bulky wool for myself.
3. Dog's dinosaur sweater.
4. Crochet ripple afghan.
5. Figure out granny squares.
6. (10) Warm Up America squares.
7. Cubs for Kids outfit.
8. (2) pair of socks. (I'm sure you all understand that while I _have_ the yarn for both pairs, I'm shopping for more just in case I decide to make three pair)
9. Use up ball ends, mill ends, crusty acrylic. I suspect most of #7 will turn into Snuggles.
1 will be finished if I have anything to say about it! 2 hasn't been started. 3 is nearly finished, but every time I sit down to do it I have to go gather all my materials together, so it never happens. It's probably a 30 minute task. 4 and 5 not started. 6 is a halfway. 7 and 8 are unstarted. 9 was hardly touched. Ack.

Christmas Afghan
12 January, 2005, 10:27 pm
Woo hoo! I'm about three quarters finished. It is going a lot faster since I started carrying the colors up the side. I hate weaving in ends and breaking yarn so hitting the end of one color is enough to stop my knitting for the day. The big obstacle now is the dogs. The thing is getting big and having four balls of yarn hanging off it is enough of an issue, but usually one of them is squished in beside me on my "knitting chair." I actually hate the chair but it's just the right size and it is right by a lamp, complete with tables on either side. I might actually get this finished before school starts again.
I decided socks will be a school project. The dpns and small balls will be easy to stuff in my backpack and pull out between classes. ..and I won't be as prone to leaving my plastic needles laying around for the dog to chew.

Pictures
8 January, 2005, 11:57 pm
Ahh. The tempermental camera cooperated for a few pictures.
Baby booties. Awaiting suggestions for sewing sole up. Afraid to turn them into freaky booties.
Dog's damage. Now that I look at them I think it's funny as hell but..
Yay. Pretty dishcloth from swap.

Camera
7 January, 2005, 12:42 am
Urgh! I was finally going to take pictures because the mailman just brought me the prettiest dishcloth. I think my camera is finally dying. It eats batteries like nobody's business but these days I set fully charged babies in there and it either won't turn on or it turns on and tells me the batteries are too low to take a picture and promptly turns off. Bah. It probably doesn't help that the battery door is broke. It also has issues with the flash cards. We'll just have to see how long it goes because I really, really shouldn't be buying a camera now. Maybe I can talk my dad into getting one..heh..heh.
All that right after I find my new set of needles has been chewed by the dog. You would think I'd learn not to leave the plastics laying around, but nooooo. Two needles are looking pretty ugly and I didn't even _start_ the pair of socks I bought them for! At least they got to experience baby booties before being crippled. I could kick myself.

Teacher
7 January, 2005, 11:59 am
Yay! I made the knot for my mom last night and talked her through casting on. She just needed a slight refresher and got the rest all on her own. I watched her like a hawk through her first knit row and lo and behold, she was knitting that extra funny loop at the end of rows, producing the trapezoid. It's like writing computer programs in a way--add one semicolon in the wrong spot and the whole damn thing's broke. She's quite a ways into her potholder and she has the same number of stitches she started with! I'm so proud. More than that, there's only like one mistake, which she asked me to fix, and apparently I didn't get it quite right. I think I get disoriented when it's not my work.
I finished the baby booties pretty much. I'm afraid to sew the bottom of the sole up. Afraid they'll turn out like my mittens.. So far they're pretty cute and I'm in love with the tiny stitches..heh.. But I think they're about newborn size and I don't know how much good they'll be to the violence center. I'm debating. One of the Yahoo! groups is working with Touching Little Lives for January. It'll go to one of the two places.
