Journal Activity thingy     20 February, 2005, 01:09 pm
Fun Journal Activity

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the "coolest" book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.
**please let me know if you add this to your journal**

"This is especially true of African Americans and women, and there are still vigorous concerns from both sectors." Enough to make you go "hm.." It comes from Media Ethics, a textbook for a course for my minor. Looks like it's talking about ads that accidentally offend rather than make people want to buy. Interesting.. we haven't gotten that far yet :)

Granny Square     20 February, 2005, 10:13 am
My first granny square! Excting! It took me a bunch of tries and a few different tutorials.

I smashed my tension finger at work the other day so it's either a bandaid or yarn scraping over the owie and neither of those are really attractive. This leaves snuggles and granny squares, 'cause I don't wanna mess up my scarf.

I'm not getting along with my dad today and I don't have school until later so I think I'll either read magazines at the bookstore or check out the knit/crochet books at the library..

Yarn for Mariah     19 February, 2005, 09:26 pm
I've decided on yarn for Mariah. I found Lily Elite cotton for $1.25/skein in a sky blue color. That brings the total to like 14 bucks and that should be 2 or 4 skeins over what I need, depending which size I decide to make. I'm kinda worried. This stuff shrinks, right? I have no idea how that affects what I'm doing so I guess swatching will be quite important. I usually don't bother washing those things but..heh. :) I think I also remember reading that cotton doesn't have the best er, memory and it stretches and all of that. Was this a bad choice? I think I'd rather have cotton/acrylic blend but I hate to spend much on my first sweater. Hell, if I like it, I can always make another in better yarn, and the kinks'll be worked out, or something?

Not much else new. Got a few more rounds of the IHS completed. What I'm trying to do is use my acrylic stash up so all the good stuff I actually like fits into my storage bins. Before the new stuff can go in the bins I need to get rid of the coffee beans and air out the bins.. and Febreeze the old yarn.

yarn!     17 February, 2005, 11:27 pm
Yay. I'm so excited. I got some Cascade Fixation in a variegated color. There were so many colors to choose from ^.^ It's so purty and the shopowner had some great things to say about it.. adding to the pile I had already heard. Can't wait to try it. I didn't even get to fondle it because it's all plastic wrapped. What's up with that? Anyway, the new yarn inspired me to put a few rows in on my Knitty ripple socks. I think it might even be machine washable..? But I forgot to check. I also bought some green/blue/white Sockotta. I hope one ball is enough. I think I need to scope out some smaller needles for that. They only had sets of 4 and I like 5 so I can use whatever the pattern suggests.. I love their sock yarn selection. The only thing I could want (at this point, hehe) is Opal. Maybe I can ask about it. They're so cramped already, though. And I still need (wink) some of KnitPicks' sock yarn. Ugh, my growing collection should last me a year or two the way it is, though.

Pictures when the camera cooperates. Small progress on the IH Scarf.

Oh, and while I was waiting for one of my groups to assemble, a guy made a comment about my crocheting. It's funny, no one's ever said anything to me and when someone actually does, he thinks I'm crocheting :)

projects without a purpose     15 February, 2005, 12:10 am
Ever get the urge to make something you have absolutely no use for? I know I know, that's what charity knitting is for. Now to find an org who wants a baby sweater. Oh well, it'll be awhile before/if that happens.

I think I mentioned my mom finished her washcloth. The next project was to be a hat but she doesn't seem as excited as I would be. The pattern has also been misplaced, thanks dad. Oh well. I'm trying not to be pushy.. just excited about having the opportunity to teach someone something I'm having so much fun with. :d So I'll let her make the next move..

I'm nearly finished with the LB Homespun 1-skein scarf. It's easy knitting I can do in bed when I'm half asleep but not ready to sleep yet. And, I can actually make next week's yarn social if none of my school groups decide to meet then. It's turning out nicely and doesn't feel too bad. If it matched my jacket I'd be tempted to keep it.

search terms     13 February, 2005, 06:16 pm
anti-histab. I guess it's possible I mentioned that somewhere but I don't recall..

I started the Irish Hiking Scarf. The merino is reallly soft. Carpal tunnel sydrome acting up a bit lately so I don't do much at a time.

I have something floating around my mind.. a yarny project of sorts. It will remain an idea for now but we'll see.

Still shopping for mariah yarn. I gather the absolute cheapest I'll get away without using ..gasp.. Redheart is something like Cotton-ease or Cotton-plus. I don't really want wool of any sort. I have never seen either of those in a store and am quite hesitant to order 30 dollars worth without being able to fondle it first, y'know what I mean? I know 30 dollars isn't a lot, but 10 or 12 skeins of yarn that I wouldn't be able to use for their intended purpose is a problem of sorts. Someday I want a cedar chest for the sole purpose of holding my yarn stash :) Gotta get my own place first..haha.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
