Oops?
3 March, 2005, 11:06 am
I cracked.. in the form of the Canon Powershot A400 over in the wish list. I was going to order it online and save 10 dollars but I don't know if they ship to PO boxes. I feel the need to hide it from my parents who may wish to lecture me on my need to save, etc. Urgh. I tried. I almost went a whole month, in fact. But I can't. I just can't. I need to move my plants and I can't be recharging batteries inbetween every picture. This is compounded by the fact that we're still on restricted hours for work. ..and I didn't get a callback for any of the well-paying summer interships I wanted..ahem. And that it takes a different memory card and consequently a new card reader..
In that light, knitting diet for March! hehe.. At least I already have my yarn for Mariah. Unfortunately that means the IHS will languish since Pokie ate the needles. But I have enough sock yarn and most of the necessary needles for like the next year :)
On to the store to pick up my new toy!

Needles & Dogs
1 March, 2005, 06:52 pm
Grr. I'm so mad at myself. I left my project where the dog could get it and she ruined another cable and another set of needle tips. I need to buy some replacements before I'm completely out of cables. I need to find a way to keep things secured, though..
And.. I'm trying to list things on ePier but the dumb thing keeps giving me errors! I think the Wagglepop thing is hilarious, but it's times like these I wish it would have worked out..
Thanks to Kathy for the comment. I was disappointed to find the stuff in sealed bags so I couldn't open it till I got home. Glad I had another vote for not-scratchy before buying it :)

Socks & Baby Jacket
28 February, 2005, 11:03 am
So I didn't get as far as I wanted on the socks. I just started the heel flap. I don't want to drag the sock around while I'm heel flapping and turning and guesseting.. so I'll take stuff for a dishcloth to school today. Hopefully in the next few days.
I started the front of the baby jacket. Nearly finished the right side and realized I had a problem. After some help from a Yahoo! group member I figured it out. I ripped back a few rows and tried again but my rows were still off so I went ahead and ripped the whole thing. I finished that piece during Life as a House. It's like one row taller than the back so I gather I still did it wrong, but that will have to do. Next is the left front.
Pictures soon..

LB Pound-of-Love & Baby Jacket
26 February, 2005, 04:23 pm
I think I will be using LionBrand's Pound of Love for Mariah..provided I can find it in a decent color around here. I'd hate to have to pay to have 2 pounds of yarn shipped. Come to think of it, I had 3 pounds shipped and it wasn't that expensive via UPS. Hm. I read a number of reviews claiming it is soft soo..
Finished the back of the baby jacket. It's cute. I'm not sure which part comes next. It strikes me as weird. One side is used for the boy version and the other side is used for the girl version. As far as I can tell, they're both the same, and About.com supports the thought of it being reversible.. But maybe there's another reason..? I hope not, 'cause I don't really remember which side is which and trying to figure out by looking at it wouldn't be quite fool proof for me.
Eyeballing the stash and trying to think of ways to use the stuff. Some was meant for a baby blanket but I had no pattern in mind so I think I will make one up with About.com's stitch guide..
But for now it's off to work for what I'm sure will be a slow & boring night.

Socks & the Boston Globe

Boston Globe on Sock Knitting
I really don't want to go to school today. It's one of those uber-long days. But this is a smidge of inspiration. I'm almost to the heel in my sock, hopefully I can take care of that today.
OH. And I received a very lovely, very unexpected dishcloth wrapped in cute heart paper. Now to figure out who sent it and if I owe them a cloth. Pictures when the camera works. >:| [which I definitely won't be replacing anytime soon now that work just got shittier, but that's for another day.]
Oh! I did do something productive. I swatched and cast on for the baby jacket. I think that's what they call it. It was on the label of Bernat Softee Baby. How come that acrylic can be so damn soft, but when you're an adult you have to buy some scratchy stuff if you don't want pastel colors..? Anywho, it's a cute little hooded thing with buttons up the front. I'm shooting for the 6-month size in a pink/white yarn. It's all done in moss stitch, which looked strangely familiar to seed stitch. I just confirmed against About.com. I gather I started the back, but I wasn't really paying attention. :)

Quiz
23 February, 2005, 09:40 pm
This is all I got. I'm sorry. I'm frustrated with the world at the moment. Hopefully content on the weekend.
 You are interchangeable.
Fun, free, and into everything, you've got every eventuality covered and every opportunity just has to be taken. Every fiber is wonderful, and every day is a new beginning. You are good at so many things, it's amazing, but you can easily lose your place and forget to show up. They have row counters for people like you!
What kind of knitting needles are you? brought to you by Quizilla

Come on, he doesn't wear pants!

Mariah Yarn
22 February, 2005, 10:43 pm
Boo hoo. They're sold out of the color I want and there weren't any other colors remotely interesting to me ^.^ Did I mention I got a skein of yarn for a baby sweater? The pattern's on the label. I'm planning to progress to Mariah. Baby sweater, easy adult sweater, Mariah. I think I will use Wool-Ease for the easy sweater - the His & Hers in Creative Knitting. I think I can get away at about 14 bucks if it's on sale, maybe 16 if it's not.. Until then I will continue looking for Mariah.
Maybe by that time I'll have money for some yarn I like. I hit a used book store in between classes and they had no knitting books. There was a combo book with knitting/crocheting/cross stitch/something else. Not enough knitting to make it worth while.
