Herrschners     17 March, 2005, 11:21 am
Happy Saint Patrick's day!

I made it to Herrschners on Tuesday. It was a nice drive and didn't take the 2 and a half or 3 hours Yahoo! said it would :) I was slightly disappointed. I thought Outlet Store meant large and abundant products, but it was a smaller piece off of their warehouse or whatever. They had just about everything in the catalog but it was kind of a couple balls of this and a couple balls of that and not the full color selection of their catalog, if I'm remember correctly. I had Noro Kureyon in mind on the way but they didn't have any colors that appealed to me and it didn't pass the fondle-test. Instead I bought Bernat Sox (stupid, I can find that at the Hobby Lobby around here), some Regia, and two sets of bamboo needles. Last time I tried bamboo I did not like them but they were cheaper than the metal so.. From the bargain corner I got Katia Espiga (My first Katia, and for the record, I hate the ball bands. You can't get any usefull information without practically unwrapping the damn thing.), and a ball of cotton/linen slubby stuff. I went 10 dollars over budget, but it was because I headed into the Bargain corner after I was "done shopping." These purchases have officially made my sock yarn collection too big to cram into its designated plastic shoe box.

Oh, and I _love_ my new camera. It was definitely worth it. I do need more time to check all these settings out. Lots more than the old camera.

Here's the baby jacket in pieces. Hood's on top, sleeves on bottom. For the record, the left front and right front are supposed to be different sizes :)

At this point I need to finish the side seams and attach the hood and buttons, cute bunny buttons :D The sock's heel has been turned. Eager to finish but I want to make some of these cute Cadbury Egg Covers before Easter's here.

But first, I must finish my FAFSA. If you've ever done it you know how much I'm dragging my feet. I thought I wouldn't need financial aid for my last half-assed sort of semester but with the car situation and the health insurance situation, I'd better have a smidge of back-up.

needles     16 March, 2005, 04:20 pm
Back to the sock. Except I used up my two back-up Bryspun flexibles when the dog chewed one and the brother de-tipped another. But now I've snapped one in half. I think I'll be fine on 4 for the rest of this sock but I'd realllly like 5 for starting the second sock :/ At least my sock didn't unravel..hehe.

How far did I get?     14 March, 2005, 10:36 pm
Let's just say, not very. I seamed the shoulders of the baby jacket and the sleeves are supposed to be next. I decided I need safety pins. I'm a bit paranoid about that lining-stitches-up thing. Hopefully that'll be finished tomorrow.

I went to knit my socks and found a needle had been chewed by the dog and another needle had been de-tipped by a curious younger brother. Fortunately I had exactly two needles left from my previous set the dog ruined. Today my tapestry bag arrived and I securely put pattern, yarn, needles, and pen into the bag and zipped it! It is the perfect size for a pair of socks but I think I will need a larger one for almost all other projects.

I do have a picture of the baby jacket pieces, but I have yet to hook the new toy up to the computer. Hopefully that's tomorrow as well.

Oh, I went to start tracking my stash in Excel but it turns out I only have trial versions on both computers. That's no good, it won't be gone by May :) I'm attempting to download a freeware replica of Microsoft Office but at 84 MB I'll be lucky if it's done by tomorrow. >:| Three cheers for Linux!

Cute sock thingy     12 March, 2005, 06:34 pm
Sock thingy. Go here! Don't worry, the socks don't reveal anything upon removal. I get lost as I move beyond the socks, though.

Ahem. Not getting very far. I finished the dishcloth. Just need to cast off, weave in ends, pack it, and mail. But the CTS is killer today. I dunno what it's problem is. Maybe it's the cotton and metal needles.

I decided over spring break I'm going to Herrschners. It's about a 2 and a half hour drive. I'm debating leaving the plastic home and taking a set amount of cash. I know. Knitting diet. But this might be my last chance for awhile and I've heard it's so great.. Um, call it an early birthday present maybe. Plus I don't work all week and obviously don't have school.

Fiber RAOK     12 March, 2005, 08:26 am
Wow. I finally asked them to remove from their queue. Oddly enough, this time I was told they are only approving as members leave. Just over 2 months ago, on 1/4/05, I was told they were approving everyone who met requirements, and they would do it in a week. Really, do me the RAOK of following your word. Sorry for venting. This left a bad taste in my mouth and is not the way to run a ring. I suspect the real reason the ring is closed so much is time constraints of the administrative folks.

In knitting progress, I finished the hood of the baby jacket and started a dishloth for an exchange due 3/15. I plan to get it in the mail today :) I'm digging the pattern, I need to make one for myself someday. If only I didn't have a foot-high stack of dish rags waiting to be used.

Hope to get the sleeves of the baby jacket finished this weekend.

Next on the list of things to do is create a spreadsheet to track my stash. I think this will be more motivating, I'm a numbers kinda person. 80 balls of yarn says more to me than 2 bins and a couple plastic shoeboxes, y'know?

Oh, and I broke my knitting diet. Surprise? I bought a zippered tapestry-ish bag on eBay. But I got a good deal and if used properly, should save me a lot of needle buying due to a certain pooch!

Knitting Needles & Scientology     9 March, 2005, 04:50 pm
This is slightly off topic. My professor got off on a tangent about scientology and the attempted abortion of babies with.. wait.. hold it.. KNITTING NEEDLES. I thought he was making it up but.. http://skepdic.com/dianetic.html

In fact, John Travolta, Kirstie Allie, Tom Cruise, and a number of others are scientologists. It's so freaky it's interesting and genuinely entertaining.. I'm pondering hitting the public library up for books over spring break.

Anywho, my camera arrived the day before it was supposed to. I have yet to sit down and learn how to use it but you can bet when I do I'll catch up on pictures. :)

Baby Jacket & Camera     4 March, 2005, 10:55 pm
Looking to finish the front tonight. I always think I'll have all this time to knit and then I remember all the things I have to do. >:| Hopefully start on the hood or sleeves tomorrow, assuming the front gets finished.

No Powershot A400 to be found at the 3 Wal-marts and Office Max I checked. And no wonder, the price was down to $135. So I ordered the blue one. It shall be delivered between Wednesday and a week from Monday. Yay. Now to find a new card reader..

I received some cotton/linen blend in the mail. It was recycled stuff I got on eBay for four dollars for almost a pound. It's weird though. I don't know the term but the 4 plies aren't even twisted together much. I wasn't really planning anything with the yarn so maybe I'll just make dish cloths or something.

I also ordered two Knitting Pure & Simpled cardigan patterns. One is a wrap thing with a belt. It's a lot longer than I want so I'll just cut 'er short. The other just has a tie closure at the top. It's kind of cute. Now that the knitting diet is for sure, I won't be starting those in this lifetime :) But that's okay. Mariah's still waiting. And that baby blanket for Project Linus..

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
