I'm Still Alive     15 March, 2008, 08:58 am
Okay, I haven't been blogging but I have been knitting..

Some big socks for Mittens for Akkol and the little socks will probably go to CIC. The little socks were dyed with Wilton's icing coloring and they colored my hands as I knit so I will have to try a vinegar bath before they leave.

This is a baby hat for my new niece coming in the next couple weeks. It is Lion Brand's Pound of Love. I love that stuff, as far as acrylic goes.

I've also been developing a new hobby, yikes! Soapmaking.. This is a batch I divided into citrus fantasy and peppermint. I had trouble getting the coloring mixed in, although the purple one looks kind of neat I think. Not sure if the trouble has to do with how old the coloring is or that I overbaked this batch but, better luck next time. I'm also having trouble with the scent, which has been fading quickly. I'll add more next time.

Pictures n Stuff     19 January, 2008, 06:14 pm
Okay the pictures. Sorry, all socks..

Do these look familiar? I did a pair just like them awhile ago except this pair is 32 stitches instead of 28. The color is Cherry Blossom from the Knit Picks worsted weight wool.

I'll be dying this pair when I get around to it.

Both pairs will go to either CIC or Mittens for Akkol, depending on who's accepting this size when I get a couple more pairs together.

These are for me. Trekking XXL. Yikes, I needed 80 stitches because this stuff knit up at 10.5 stitches for me. But I think they sure are pretty and they fit perfectly. I'll definitely use Trekking again.. when I want a slow knit.. ;)

I'm past the heels on a pair of big kid socks for Mittens for Akkol. They are also in the Oatmeal (got a deal on this stuff) and they will also be dyed when completed.

So I was thinking about goals for the new year and didn't come up with much. I wanted to cement a goal about posting more often but as you can see it's been over a month since the last post and nearly three months into the new year so I don't know how realistic that is.. Oh well..

Im Heeere     8 December, 2007, 08:47 pm
I guess it's been a month or two huh? I have been knitting and here's proof -

Plain ribbed scarf for charity out of Wool-ease. I have a lot of this stuff. I bought a bunch at a going out of business sale so I could make an afghan or a sweater and decided I wanted neither of those in this color/yarn.

Plain ribbed scarf for charity out of something? I think it's acrylic. It's one-ply, very loosely spun, not very fun to knit with. I have a cone of this stuff from a warehouse sale.

Darn sales.. Making me take home things I don't like especially much.

Another plain old ribbed/stockinette hat for my Be-A-Santa-To-A-Senior senior. I opted to buy socks this year in the interest of time.

On the needles-
3 pair of socks (one pr is ready for toe closing, yay! one pr just got heels, yay!)
mystery stole
shawl
afghan

About time, here's a pair of socks in Regia something or other in my ever-favorite pattern, the Blueberry Waffle. I originally did a modified strong heel but the fit was wrong no matter how long I made the heel/gusset. I used the regular heel flap and then I compared my regular heel flap/gusset to my modified strong heel pair and noticed the angles of the stitches are quite different. I think that's why I don't like the fit. I don't have a protractor or I'd measure them out of curiosity.. Too bad, such a great way to do heels - no pickups/wraps.

I have lots of stuff going..
3 pairs socks
2 scarves
shawl
stole
afghan

and I want to start this cute little tulip cardigan I found in a book. I thought maybe it could go in the fair next year if it turns out alright. And then I wanted to start a pair of socks because the senior trees should be going up in November and I want to pick a senior to gift that wants socks..hehe.

5 Hour Baby Sweater     8 September, 2007, 11:59 am
Finished, I added an extra inch so the eyelets along the bottom are in the wrong spot but I wasn't really in the ripping mood.

I still looks tiny :o Hopefully it's enough to fit a preemie. I realized why I avoided this pattern in the past. No gauge or finished measurements kinda leave me guessing as I'm clueless when it comes to the size of an infant.

Back to socks. Pictures of the graduates from the Akkol orphanage were posted and it just made me want to knit more socks!

Yay, I've been knitting!

Here's a 5 hour baby sweater.

I'm to the dividing for sleeves part. It is quick, but not five hour quick. And I'm not knitting worsted weight on size 10.5s :D

These are the socks of last post after dying. Whew, that was so easy! I soaked the socks for about 20 minutes in their own pots of water and then dissolved 3 tabs of some off-brand of egg dye for each pair in vinegar (3 T per tab, methinks?) and added to the pots of water. Hours later (like 8, maybe?) the blue socks were ready and I gave up on the green socks ever soaking up all the dye and cooked 'em on low for about 20 minutes to hopefully help set the dye. During the cooking, the rest of the green soaked up.

My fat cat had his 6th birthday yesterday. He did not like his new toys. I didn't try his catnip bubbles yet..

Socks and a Hat     25 August, 2007, 01:36 pm
Not much happening here and I hate posting without pictures, slacker me.

But here's a baby hat.

I don't like dpns much, next one will be magic looped.

And here are socks. These are for Mittens for Akkol, their new years project.

The socks are, as I type, in an easter egg dye bath. Between my scant counter space and my tiny pots, this is not an easy task.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
