Space Bags, Socks, Comments
23 March, 2005, 10:52 am
First, thanks for all the recent comments! No wonder people like them so much :) If you're posting a comment and you have a website, I'd love it if you drop that in there, also. I never realized my blog's comment thing didn't have a spot for your website. I really like perusing blogs and websites, especially knit-related. Lisa was right about the Kroy softening. Thanks! It also seemed to shrink a bit.
Lessons learned: Don't be too lazy to actually wash the swatch. Try sock on early, especially if using substitutions!
Next, I ordered yarn for my sock swap buddy's socks and found two possible patterns and will continue looking for more. We specified colors and she cleverly mentioned she likes the jewel colors - emerald, ruby, sapphire, etc. Let me tell you, I own two rings, both were gifts, and neither have seen the light of day. I got my Google on and found some pictures and hope I've found a good match. Has anyone ordered from handknitting.com? A first for me, and due to inventory or something, they won't be shipping until after Easter. If I weren't a slow knitter and my partner hadn't already started, it wouldn't be a bad thing :)
Last, space saving bags. Target, you suckered me in. I paid 3.99 for a bag that's kind of like a large, noisy Ziploc that was supposedly going to reduce my stash by 75%. Uh huh. Pictures next time.
The sock will be frogged as soon as I get over it. When I do get back to it, I think I will just use Cascade Fixation and save myself the trouble.
Amendment: In a fit of frustration, I sat on the generic space bag. That broke some sort of seal that allowed the air to flow out. And now my yarn takes up half the space it used to! :D

Socks n stuff
20 March, 2005, 11:03 pm
While I was stewing about my socks I whipped up 3 of those Cadbury egg covers in the form of chicks. Picture when I glue eyes and beaks on.
I've come to realize that, whatever the problem, the sock will need to be frogged. I've also been wondering how the Patons Kroy feels after a washing, 'cause, well, the more I work with it, the less I like it. So um, I washed my nearly completed sock in the bathroom sink and we'll see how it is when it's dry.
I joined a sock swap, right before I started feeling completely inadequate :) So I will be starting those before I re-start the ripples. As soon as I choose yarn & a pattern. This is gonna be fun.
In the meantime, I don't know what to start. The Irish Hiking Scarf is on hold until April when I will order Denise replacements. The baby jacket just needs 3 seams (and it's taking me a week). I now have an extra cable & set of needles since mother finished her hat, but I don't want to snap them up right away in case she wishes to make something else. Her hat is really cute, by the way, and I think I need one. Maybe that's what I should make. Mariah and the baby blanket are on hold for Denise replacements also.
But, spring break is over so my knitting time will be reduced.

Sock Woes
20 March, 2005, 11:53 am
Help? I just tried on my partial sock and it doesn't fit over my ankle. I checked my gauge and it was on when I started. Could the problem be related to using Patons Kroy (Wool/nylon blend) over Cascade Fixation (Cotton/elastic blend)? Or maybe my foot's just friggin' huge.

What do I dooo?

Enquiring minds want to know..Space Bags?
19 March, 2005, 10:18 pm
Has anyone used those space bags for storing their stash? Y'know, the ones you used to see on tv. You can vacuum or roll the air out to make things take up half the space? Heh..heh. We have a small 88 cent version at work. I was studying them as I restocked. I should buy one and see what happens. What's 88 cents, right? And if it does work.. think of the possibilities. I could fit all the yarn under my bed and be guilt-free.
Yahoo! Yarn Co-op. Holy cow. They're getting good prices. I added a number of things to the order including four balls of sock yarn and 3 sets of DPNs. And then I felt guilty with that knitting diet and all.. so I removed two balls of yarn. I probably shouldn't buy the DPNs. They're small ones for socks and I've been seriously contemplating moving to 2 socks on 2 circs. The idea is so appealing, mostly because of the gauge differences I hate.

Excitement
18 March, 2005, 10:27 am
Woohoo! I finally got to the point in knitting where I can look at a pattern, decide I don't like a section, and figure out a way to rework it to make it the way I want!
My wrist hurts quite a bit this morning. It hurt last night so that should have been a sign to stop, or at least wear the brace to bed, but did I? Uh-uh.
Back to work today. My spring break's almost over. But I just got an email from an insurance company asking for my resume. Hm.

Oh. My. Gosh.
17 March, 2005, 10:45 pm
Go look at these stitch markers! How I'd love to have a donut dangling off my sweater. Or a chocolate square hanging from a hat. *drools*

Caught Sassy during a good scratch.
Pokie just woke up.
Oh. I have a problem. That knitting diet? Yeah. I can't start anything new because I have short short cables left. Mariah should fit but the 6s are chewed and the 7s are being used by my mom. The baby blanket in line definitely isn't being crammed on one of those shorties :) That leaves socks and snuggles..until April? Eep.
