Sock Swap
16 April, 2005, 10:31 pm
Yay! One sock down, one to go! I used the 3-needle something or other again (bind off? I have such a bad memory sometimes), and I'm really pleased with it. It's a bit bulky on the inside, though. I cast on for the 2nd and finished the ribbing but the finger is numb again.
Tomorrow I have to work, finish some homework, and get clothes ready for another interview. And possibly drive to school to meet with a group. So I doubt I'll be knitting.. If I get extra time I'm making lemon muffins :)
This week is pretty light and I have next weekend off so hopefully I can get these done and mailed.
Off to watch Sleepless in Seattle, without my knitting :/

Early Birthday Present
13 April, 2005, 07:49 pm
Oops. I went to Bo Pee's Wool Shop and found some deals. $25 later..how did that happen? :( I should be getting two balls of Sockotta and a pair of 24" circs in sizes 1-3. You know what that means! 2 socks on 2 circs! And apparently orders over $25 get a free tote..I think I read that somewhere.. If you order after seeing this, please list me as a referral :)
Off to list plants on eBay to pay for this..*grin*

Oh my gosh, comments!
12 April, 2005, 09:27 pm
Yay! I only know where Rebecca "lives" so I am saddened that I cannot visit Li and Jill :/ If you stop by again please leave links your blogs :)
I am to the foot of the secret sock. It is fitting. I think I will decrease 2 extra stitches as the intended recipient has narrow feet. My one finger gets tingly lately when I knit. Odd, my mother pointed out that it is probably CTS. I've never had that before, only pain.. So I'm taking it easy.. *pout*
I started a swatch for the baby bit but sort of stupidly only cast on 20 stitches for a 10 stitch repeat..that starts with YOs. I was relieved to find the swatch pretty close to suggested gauge but I will do it over with borders so I can be a smidge more accurate.

Progress Report
10 April, 2005, 10:14 am
I've made it a bit down the cuff on the "secret" sock. I've realized two things with my recent sock knitting. Number one, metal needles, at least my Boye dpns, are really hard on my hands. On the opposite end are the Bryspun flexibles. The dog can chew those too easily and sometimes they flex a bit too much. Not to mention that snapping incident.. I need to try the bamboo jobbies I got from Herrschner's. Oh yeah, and number two, the color of the needles makes a difference. I have to look at this clashing mess for like a sock and a half yet..lol. But I really like how it's turning out otherwise. Need to try it on soon.
Have yet to swatch for the baby present--need to do that today, hopefully.
It seems I've finally "fixed" my tension issues. When I started knitting I always had go down a needle size or two. These days I surprise myself by having to go to the suggested size more often than not. I attribute it to wrapping the yarn around the pinky.
This is a big gripe. Skip ahead if you don't like whining. :) Recently I witnessed a big discussion on a list about knots in skeins. I can understand one knot.. but if a company tries to defend 3 or 4 knots in one skein, that's just wrong. Obviously I understand there's no endless ball of yarn. I guess my computer science/problem solving training has lead me to think of various ways of implementing knot checking in the machinery..lol. And then that ball needs to be sold at a discount. My retail experience has lead me to expect the best. If you pay full price for yarn, you expect a nearly flawless skein. Anything less than that is disrespectful of our time.. Yes-no?

What did I do?
8 April, 2005, 09:42 am
I made a lot of knit-commitments. Somehow they just kind of creep up. First is the socks for my swap buddy, which must be finished ASAP. Then there's a dishcloth for the end of May. If I just remember to bring my things to school I can knock that out on one of my longer breaks. Next is the special present for some special new parents. That can probably "wait" till fall, but I best get swatching in case the yarn doesn't work. Last, one of the Yahoo! groups, charity themed, was looking for some activity. I happily suggested squares, fortunately I didn't hint at joining them :D I would like to get a few of those made. Looks like they will be 6" - could finish a couple of those during another long break at school.
Speaking of long breaks at school..I had 3 hours yesterday but all my projects are in "funny" places so I did not want to bring any along. (And no homework, some professors are slacking or something. *wink*) The fixation sock has a cast on, it's not even joined. The SSB (sock swap buddy) sock was in the cuff, and the rest is knit in a different sized needle = lots of things to drag along to school.
BUT the denise needles came yesterday! Once the socks, squares, and dishcloth are out of the way I will take up the Irish Hiking Scarf again. I also have a few other projects planned, and since I'm off the knitting diet, I can have at them :)
Ooh, I also got a wonderful package from a dishcloth swap. Maybe I can take a picture..

Okay, so they weren't there last night. It was midnight by the time I finished on eBay. Oops.
This is the first Broadripple sock, post-washing. Gone now.
New sock, now finished. Fits and is really soft, I love it. Except it bunches a bit over the ankle-y area.
This is from eBay - Twinkletoes in bluebird, can't remember the seller. I emailed for a suggested gauge and no response :/ Anyone..? :)
As I mentioned before, that makes it about half the thickness it was and it now lives behind my bed with the dust and feathers. :) That's acrylic in an off-brand from a liquidation store. Destined to become Project Linus blanket when Denise replacements arrive and some other things are out of the way.
