Meetup
29 April, 2005, 11:09 am
Is anyone else floored by Meetup's not so recent announcement of fees? Ugh. The only thing that makes them worth fees is the fact that they are a central location that is easy for people of all inclinations to find. And that's not worth 9 bucks a month. (at least not on my budget) Bah. A couple of my local group's members left. I advised them to join the Wisconsin group on Yahoo! so we can continue to try to make something work. We only had one meetup, it was just two of us.. You know what that means.. with hardly any active members I would be shouldering the fee until we got enough new members to make a meetup. And then I'd have to ask them for money.
The car turned out to be not as bad as expected, yay! But they had to special order so they gave it back to me. They didn't have the bill ready at the time so everything's on hold for a week :)
I am nearly finished with the sock swap sock. One more pattern repeat and the toe. Start the mound of homework, or finish sock. Hm.. Big decisions.
My godmother a few states away called last night. My dad told her what I intend to knit for my brother and SIL's baby. She wants pictures. She also mentioned she's getting back into knitting.. that's so cool.
Finally.. I'm updating links on the side bar. If I put you up there and you'd rather not be, let me know. :)

Mixed News
27 April, 2005, 08:00 pm
First the bad news. My car took a shit. In the end it will be $500+, possibly upwards of $800. Ouch? I gotta think and crunch numbers. If it's not fixed I can't use it (fire hazard) but it's getting aged.
Good news! I got an offer. Pending a drug test, background investigation, and consumer report.. I'll have a full time internship for summer that pays 4 bucks more/hour than current employment. Woo!
Almost done with the second sock swap sock. :)

Comments & Peeing Boy
27 April, 2005, 10:09 am
I just noticed the comments are off by a month.. weirdd..
Jill asked where the peeing little man came from. (Psst, she has daffodil pictures, for those of us lacking signs of spring.) Well, he appeared in the bathroom one day. I think my brother's girlfriend brought him over, but I can't be sure. My brother doesn't like answering questions straight.
In any event, I tried searching on eBay but couldn't come up with much. If anyone knows where to get these lovelies, I'm sure we'd like to know :D It looks old to me. There was dust in the crevices, making it look like it had been in storage for awhile. I'm sure you can imagine the results Google returns. *covers eyes*
I'm hoping my one and only class will be cancelled today so I need not drive. That's all that's on my plate. I have to take my car to the doctor, but largely it will be myself and my data structures mountain of homework, trying to come to some sort of agreement.

Pictures!
26 April, 2005, 01:14 pm
Early birthday present. Two balls of half-priced Sockotta, two pairs of circs 1-3 for 2 socks on 2 circs.
First Broadripple sock that fits. This is Cascade Fixation.
My new knitting bag! :)
That's all for knitting related.
I woke Fiona up for a picture.
This is awesome. You fill the bottom with water (via a little hole) and pull his pants down and he pees, it goes quite the distance.
Pokie on the left and Sassy on the right. Sassy usually arrives first and then Pokie has to push her way in. Sometimes Sassy gets up and leaves. Other times I think she might like it..?
One of my violets. I have hoards of these in my room. Of course, they're not all blooming like that..

Blog stuff
23 April, 2005, 10:06 pm
Well, my early birthday present to myself arrived. Pictures later. Free tote bag was included. This is almost the most exciting part. I've always wanted a yarn-knit-ish related tote bag but I'm too cheap to buy one. Ta-da! Free even with all my half-priced goodies.
So I can't show pictures of anything I'm knitting right now and I'm still trying to back off the yarn purchases.. The plan is, pictures of everything but knitting! Half the fun for me in checking out other people's blogs is analyzing the background of the knit pictures..lol. I also wanted to put together one of those 100 things list so I'll start that.
Oh, and you can have bits of my personal life until I have knit news. Sorry ;) My name was printed yesterday for volunteering 100 hours at the shelter in 2004. That's kind of a brag. This makes me more proud of myself than a lot of things, including good grades I occasionally get..lol. My goal for 2005 is to pass the 150 and branch into the dogs.

Where am I now?
22 April, 2005, 11:58 pm
Ah. I finished the feather & fan dishcloth and mailed it off. I purposely reminded myself to take a picture before mailing, and did I? Of course not. I really like the pattern. So pretty. I don't know if it's quite suitable for a dishcloth, holey as it is. I still want a feather & fan baby blanket for project linus but that will be on the back burner forever.
Oh, by the way.. if you use an envelope but put a dishcloth and a bar of soap in it, is that a letter, or a package? I like the mail-it-yourself station. But I tried to mail the orangy-yellow-envelope as a package to Canada and it wouldn't let me. Customs I assume? So I mailed it as a letter to Canada. I've done that before and it worked fine, but.. that doesn't mean, hehe, that it's the right way or that it will work every time.
Slightly more progress on the sock swap sock. Here I go complaining again, but I don't like metal needles, and I don't like 4 dpns for socks. The needle with double the number of stitches gets hard to knit.
My weekend off? I volunteered for an 8 hour shift tomorrow, and Sunday I'm doing the 50-minute each way drive to school to put a paper together with group members. Which means I have to finish my section of the essay before then. Sorry sock swap pal. It's coming... in fact, it will have my undivided knitting attention until it is done.

Life & Projects
20 April, 2005, 09:32 am
You know how things suddenly whirl up out of nowhere and you're hopping? I sort of feel that way. I guess it's only right, the end of the semester approaching. Two weeks! Two weeks! And next semester I only have one class :) That should leave lots of time for knitting. I have another interview Thursday. I hope one of these turns into something so I don't have to go begging someone to let me intern for free. Although at least maybe I could work in my hometown for the summer then..lol.
A group member on a Yahoo! list posed _that_ question. Y'know.. What are you working on?
I have the second sock of a swap, a feather & fan dishcloth for a swap, a dusty, neglected Irish Hiking Scarf, a second Broadripple sock, a 6" square for a group afghan project. There's a swatch for a baby gown to be gifted, and a baby sweater that needs to be sewn up.
I've honestly never had this many projects at once. The seams on the baby sweater would take 10 minutes. My mom even offered to weave the ends in. Why can't I make myself finish?
Other than that I've been pushing on the swap stuff so I can get back to the gift and the me-stuff.
