Book Meme     16 May, 2005, 00:05 am
I apologize, this will probably be incredibly boring. But I do appreciate being thought of, thanks Agnes :)

Total number of books in your house:
I would guess around 150 range, including a set of encyclopedias and a set of children's encyclopedias. Mine are pretty much limited to a handful of computer programming books from school and another handful of children's books I can't part with. The rest are my father's.

Last book bought:
Again, school stuff. Before that, I got two books on half.com. One is a Better Homes & Garden book of patterns and the other a knit and crochet afghan collection. They aren't incredibly uh, desireable, but they were incredibly cheap. That makes all the difference, doesn't it..?

Last book read:
Uh oh. Like a fiction book? It could very well have been a Stephen King book, but I haven't read those in a few years. I read parts of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's soul now and then. The most recent read was from a data structures book. I used to love to read but after doing all that reading for school, I never wanted to sit and read. And then I started knitting..

5 (or 6) books you often read or that mean a lot to you:
1. Various knitting books from the library, does that count?

2. Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul- I've read all the stories but sometimes when I get bored I like to re-read them. They're so warm and fuzzy.

2. Chicken Soup for the Teen's Soul- not as much as I used to, but sometimes when I have one of those days, I like to pull it out.

3. Emily- a children's book. I got it from my aunt. Actually, I've received a couple books named Emily and one named Memily from her. She's cool like that. The story is sweet and I like the pictures.

4. Encyclopedias. Do those count? They solve a lot of disagreements among my parents and I.

I think that's it, really. I've had to use my old discrete math book a lot this past semester but I'd like to forget about that :)

Here's everything else. First, a smidge of knitting content. I have almost 10 inches of a baby thing back. Time to switch to smaller needles. Hope to finish the back and start the front before the middle of June.

I am incredibly bored lately. I hate sitting in my room knitting. I think mostly it's a comfort issue. Sitting on a bed for extended periods of time knitting doesn't work.

I've been working about 12 hours a week. Bah! My 3 year anniversary was last week. I got a lil raise.

We have two new managers. I've been surprisingly open-minded. Perhaps because I plan on leaving. But now they're starting to annoy people with their changes. So many, at once.. I've never had a manager I couldn't get along with before, but I think one of these two might bother me.

My birthday is this week. I'm excited. I'm still debating. I haven't had my first drink and I will be turning 22. Sad?

Life Happenings     12 May, 2005, 08:51 am
My poor mousie died. I sort of expected it. I still wake up in the morning and expect to see her. My parents have each given me the "no more pets" mini-lecture in a loud, strict voice. That's okay. If I ever move out, I want a big kitty, and you know the stereotype..

School is basically done. I finished my last two group dealings and just need to give a mini presentation on one today. Now comes the part where I log in 3 times a day and anxiously check if my grades came in. So far I've got an AB coming. I am actually semi-worried about passing one of my classes, so if the grade god could just send that one down expedited, it would be appreciated. And it's only offered every fourth semester. To draw a better picture, if I don't pass, I wouldn't graduate in December.

Last night was to be devoted to the baby thing, but my brother's been coming over every night this week. I'm afraid he'll pop his head in my room and be like, "what's that?" Foil my knitting plans, how dare you? It is pretty, but somehow you work for like an hour and there's only another half inch, y'know? And it's not movie knitting, unless I've seen it before and am content to just listen..lol.

Here is a list of 100 things about me. I'll put it over on the side some time but for now..

So, for the next few weeks I shall have tons of time to knit, especially since I'm only getting a few hours at work. Hopefully that high will hold me through when I start working full time. That will be a little shock to the system :)

Update     10 May, 2005, 09:19 am
I tagged Knitting Satori and Agnes and Noreen!

On the knitting front, I've finished a little more than one pattern repeat on the baby thing. And then I freaked out. I'm thinking, "okay, a baby doesn't need what amounts to 40+ inches for the front and back." I mean, I don't know much of anything about babies but that looked a little huge. But according to the diagrams I was on target. And my tension was still in tact. Mother came in and pointed out how full and ruffly it was on the bottom and suggested it gets smaller later on. Whew.

I was afraid my mom had been turned off from knitting forever. I didn't wanna be a PITA but I suggested we go to the library. We sat on the floor and looked at books. It was kinda fun. But she found a couple cute things in the baby book so we picked out yarn. As we were doing that I got a reminder of how yarn holds different values for different people. You know what I mean? Although, it took me awhile to get a little snobbier about my yarn choices.. maybe she'll come around too..hehe.

Sock Swap & Taggings     5 May, 2005, 11:33 pm
My sock swap buddy received her socks and said she likes them. They actually sound like they match the outfit she picked out for her first day of travel. Cool, huh? I wonder if mine are sitting at the post office. Can't wait to get there tomorrow! Picture next time.

Rebecca tagged me, and this is a first for me, also. Bombs away!

My 10 favorite things, in no order:

- cheese whips and curds and string cheese
- older beagle Sassy (sorry Pokie, old critters hit the soft spot)
- being home
- cake donuts
- onion rings
- my mom
- big fluffy down comforter, my grandmother's until she died.. she had good taste :)
- staying up late with my knitting and a funny movie
- Sponge Bob Square Pants
- Wired magazine

Is is sad that three of those are food? I'm still figuring out who to tag. Check back next time :)

SCHOOL'S OUT. Sort of. Finals next week. Can't wait :) But now I must go to bed. Have to get the car to the shop at the buttcrack of dawn, when someone's here to give me a ride home..

I'm in Love!     4 May, 2005, 09:49 pm
..with Knit Picks' Sock Landscape. *drool* It feels absolutely wonderful. And the colors.. mm. I got Rocky Mountain Dusk. And now I want Yukon and Cape Cod and Spring Prairie...... and if Sock Landscape is good, Sock Garden must be good also, no? So then I want Hydrangea and Holly Berry! Err.. yeah. Just forget for a minute that I have enough yarn for like 10 or 15 pairs of socks.

Oh, and mom asked what I want for my birthday. (In just over two weeks, start planning *wink*) Is this good timing? Or bad timing.. Oh! And the yarn coop on Yahoo! has Fleece Artists at 50% off. That makes 250g of sock-suitable merino only 22 Canadian. I almost impulse purchased a skein. But then I decided two or three pairs of one color is too much. But ooh..

For your drooling pleasure: Sock Landscape
Sock Garden

You may get free shipping if you put "socks" in the promo box.. not sure if/when that ended.

Oh yeah.. knitting. Not much going on. I worked a bit on the second Broadripple sock and a few more rows on the baby thing. I had to stop to look up SKPO. More tonight. Tomorrow is THE LAST DAY OF classes. I'm so excited. I need to finish one assignment and then there's a couple finals and half of a large paper.. but it will be okay. :D

Darn you, Knit Picks!     2 May, 2005, 11:01 pm
But first! I sent my pair of sock swap socks off.. I hope they're okay. I'm still a bit worried. I believe I misinterpretted how high she likes her cuffs, and also I didn't like the gauge I made them in. Now's a good time, right?

So I went and bought 2 balls of Sock Landscape from Knit Picks and got my free shipping. I was afraid that promo ended in April or something so y'know.... And then I get this email about their new yarns. Behold, a cotton/wool/nylon/elastic blend! Sounds perfect. Good thing none of the colors are calling me. I was trying to justify just two more balls as the page loaded. Phew :p ..although Jig is kinda pretty..

Three days of classes left. They will give me a run for my money.

Oh yeah, and I started the baby thing.. but I think my gauge is too tight. Ugh. It actually didn't take too long to cast on the 153 stitches but..

Fascination with Buying Yarn     30 April, 2005, 10:12 am
Erf. I am trying to do my homework but all I can do is sit and stare at it, asking it why it won't do what I want it to. And then I got distracted.

What is the fascination with buying yarn?

You know.. when your family makes fun of you because you have two Sterlite containers full under the bed, plus 4 plastic shoeboxes, plus a buncha stuff scattered around the room.. like 2 pounds of LB pound-of-love, 4 more balls of cascade fixation, some twinkletoes, a couple balls of sockotta, a ball of regia cotton surf, a number of balls of katia espiga, some bernat sox, two balls of redheart, 4 or so balls of alpaca, 2 balls of nubby cotton, 12 balls of some cheap acrylic, um, and probably some more I can't remember.. nevermind what's in all the bins..

And what do I want to do? Buy more yarn. Even if I had the money, what the hell do I need more yarn for? lol. The only good news is that the yarn I like now is more expensive, therefore I buy less and it takes up less space. :)

I have the incredible urge to buy yarn for a sampler afghan I want to make, and a cardigan I have the pattern for. But when will I ever get to them? And when I do, will I still like them? Will I still wear the same size?

Oh yeah! I'm on the toe of the last sock. Which is pretty good timing because my partner is going on a vacay and wants to get them sent before she leaves. Hopefully I can do the same.. or at least have them waiting for her when she gets back.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
