Oops, Jill pointed out I forgot my father. His finger is okay. The stitches will be out any day now. It still looks nasty, with most of the nail missing. And it's a bit numb in parts. Whether or not that changes remains to be seen. Which reminds me.. he has this recurring growth in his mouth (ew, I hate teeth, mouths, all that jazz) and the last time they took it out they must have struck nerve or something 'cause it's been numb ever since. Yeck?
The rumor seems to be that Cotton-ease is leaving us. Just when I start looking for a cotton-acrylic blend that's affordable it up and leaves. What the heck? Okay okay, I've been looking for awhile but didn't wanna buy yet.
I wanna make a shawl.. I'm thinkin' one of the Fiber Trends patterns.. with Knit Picks' alpaca lace weight.. Yummy yummy. I need to finish the scarf first.

Today's the Day
27 May, 2005, 08:24 am
I tell my current employer I wish not to be employed anymore. I built a day of padding into my plans just in case one of the three managers I know and love isn't present and I don't have the guts to approach one of the two new managers. But I'd like to spit it out as soon as possible, in part because I'm excited and I've been holding it in for like, weeks, and in part because I think it's been causing me anxiety for like the last how many weeks (holding it in, y'know). But I wanted to make sure I cleared all my background check, drug test, consumer report stuff. Not that I have skeletons in my closet.. er.. besides a large school loan.
Last night my mother accompanied me and I found enough clothes to hold me for almost a week. All I need now is another shirt and socks and perhaps another pair of shoes... This too, was an anxiety point. The first time I went my favorite store had nothing I liked in my size.
Lastly, the car gets fixed today. If the part arrived. If not I guess it waits till next week.. Crossing my fingers that this is the last big fix for at least a few months.
Oh, this is a knitting blog? Hehe. I'm about 40" in on the scarf and about 2" in on a pair of socks. They are looking really huge. I used 64 stitches of Regia something or other and size 2 needles. I think it may be the change from dpns to circulars making them look huge, so I will wait it out.
Gotta get back to the baby thing, hopefully this weekend.

Sock Wizard
25 May, 2005, 08:54 am
Y'know that program? I wanna make something like it. I'll be graduating in December and my last real programming class was in December of last year. Not good. So I want to get some practice in over the summer and perhaps next semester by making my own version. First I need to figure out how to make a generic sock. But I think I want to be able to enter my gauge, length of foot or shoe size, and circumference. And then I think it would be cool to be able to have it adapt to either 2 circs or dpns, toe up or cuff down, and different heel flaps.. and hopefully people will be around to help me knit test socks. :D
Not much progress around here. Got another foot or something on the Irish Hiking Scarf. The baby thing hasn't moved. Last time I worked on it I got distracted and messed up a couple rows. I'm not ripping back because I can't even find the mistake, but I still know it's there. I need to rent some old movies from the library to work by..
I went to the shelter yesterday. They're back to euthanizing cats, and we've only just received our first litters of the year. It's gonna be a bad summer, methinks. After, I went shopping for clothes for the new job. I tried on a buncha stuff and couldn't decide so I put it all back.

Creative Knitting Magazine
22 May, 2005, 01:16 pm
Woohoo! It kind of surprised me, and there's like 3 things I'm thinkin' about making some year soon. Bookmarked them and put the mag away so I'm not tempted to buy yarn right now. The first is the rosebud throw. It's really holey but very pretty and the mohair gives it a neat whispy effect. The second is the pink sweater. There's a tie running around it in eyelets. I can't remember the third right now and the website still reflects the previous issue. My subscription has definitely been worth the 10 bucks. :D
Oh, and my dad's doing well. He actually got some of the bone this time and vowed to give up woodworking. Ouch.
No progress on the baby thing 'cause I've been working on the scarf. It's perhaps 20 inches long now. Lots of movie knitting. I like it 'cause the pattern is so easy, but it still looks like it took some thought.
Back to the baby thing this week. I also need to visit my kitties at the shelter and go clothes shopping sometime this week. :/

Rip, Rip
21 May, 2005, 09:38 am
Bye-bye scarf. I had been debating all along. I was holding two strands of Knit Picks' merino together and didn't like the fabric I was getting. I guess I could have went up a needle size, but I went down and restarted it with just one strand. I added a repeat to the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern and I'm liking it a lot more. I never knew what a pain it was to rip two strands held together. Fortunately I was doing it while watching What About Bob? so there was distraction during the frustration :) I was also worried about gauge. I'm closer to ball labels these days than I used to be. Don't look now, but there's a ball's worth of tangle that's been sitting next to the couch for a couple days.
The good news? At this rate it'll be done in time to wear this winter! hehe. Oh, and a couple leftover balls of merino >:) Maybe this way I can make it longer..
I should have sufficient time to knit today. My dad caught his finger on the table saw. (again? I'm sure.) He woke me to tell me and eventually I offered him a ride. Non-drowsy sudafed? Hm.
I thought I got away cheaply with my car troubles, but the past week I've been.. um.. sniffin' the fumes. My poor brain cells. I was hoping it would leave. But it didn't. And this will be $500 on top of the $400 last time. I imagine this must hurt anyone, but when it takes two months to make that much, it kinda hurts more. Then again, I have very few "normal" bills to worry about paying, so it probably all evens out.
On that end, I haven't bought yarn in quite awhile! I think I realized just how much I have :) And I've got the scarf, baby thing, and many a pair of socks to work on before I'd ever have to buy more.

Finished Socks
19 May, 2005, 09:04 pm
I finished my socks. Just need to weave ends in. I dug around in my stash and found a self pattering yarn to try with the circulars.
But first I'm digging out the dusty scarf. I think it would go fast if I could just get back in the swing.
But now, pictures.
First dish cloth I got in a swap.
Second I got in a swap from the same person. Too pretty to use!
Socks I mailed away.
Again. How come socks look so retarded when they're off your feet?
Yummy socks I received. Ii've since found they are sport weight wool-ease. I didn't know it came in such a cool color..
Oh, and it's my birthday. Perhaps next time I will photograph my birthday spoils. I am 22 and I'm feelin' old.
P.S. There's two sets of Patons Kroy Socks on eBay if anyone needs some. ;)

Broadripple Sock
16 May, 2005, 10:36 pm
I finally got to the gusset of the second sock. Kids, it's confirmed. It's those dumb metal dpns that make my finger go numb. I can knit for quite awhile on straight metal needles, even fingering yarn, without that problem. I never experienced that while I was using the plastic dpns either. *pout* Hopefully the two-socks-on-two-circulars method works better on the next pair.
I received two dishclothes in the mail today. At least, one is. The other looks tooo pretty to use for washing dishes. More like a doily.. I gotta catch up on pictures.
I'm kind of annoyed with myself. I haven't been to the shelter in over a month. First it was interviews and the end of the semester. Now I just can't get myself to drive there. This week is looking a little busy but I'm gonna try. I miss my kitties.
