Picture Time
2 July, 2005, 10:24 am
Finally! Pictures, and I even got around to listing some stuff on eBay. Hope it moves fast, but I dunno how those things go on the holidays..?

These are recent stash enhancements, bringing the documented stash to 100 balls, not counting the 20 or so stinky ones under the bed (must get back to Snuggles). I found out we have a Tuesday Morning. It seems like a Big Lots with a bit of higher end stuff. Gotta make that my first stop when I move into my own spot. Anywho, after seeing all the buzz about the Cotton-Ease they have, I had to pick some up. The Blue Candy may become placemats and the Pistachio will probably be a baby something or other. The Wool-Ease was from the LYS's going out of business sale and there's enough for a sweater or an afghan, so who knows. And green's my favorite color next to the blue family. :)
Second try on the Six Sox KAL Chutes and Ladders. Only half a pattern repeat. Every time I pick it up, someone comes over..lol.
Flower basket shawl. As you can see, I was too anxious to cook the cable and now I'm wishing I hadn't been. Already messed up once but I couldn't see the mistake so there was no frogging to be done. :) P.S. When everything else hurts my wrists, this is the knitting to do. I think it's the weight of the yarn and the ease with which it slides off the needles n stuff. Maybe.
I tried to convince myself the color isn't really this ugly in real life, but it is. This is about half of a Project Linus blanky in my own "pattern."
Did I mention the dog ran away a week ago? Someone called us shortly after and I picked her up about 6 blocks away, a nice jog for a short beagle. She gets frightened easily and when the neighbors pulled out their biggest firework, she happened to be outside. She must have been flying. I heard her bark getting quiet and knew she left the yard, so I was out there pretty quick, and she was already off our block. Whew, heart was pounding that night. These days she won't go in the yard at night, so I have to pretend I'm taking her for a walk in order for her to go to the bathroom before we go to bed. And then she plasters herself against a leg or something. For these reasons I can't wait for the fourth to be over so we can get reacquainted to the backyard at night time.

Kitties
25 June, 2005, 06:05 pm
oopsy daisy, off topic again. I promise to knit soon and bring proof. Really.
I haven't been to the shelter in three weeks or something and I needed the furball fix. Kitties have such nice fur. Not that I don't like the beagles' fur, but.. Somebody out there has to know what I'm talking about, right? So I asked my mom if she would come to the shelter in the city we live in and surprisingly she agreed, the second time I asked, anyway. I volunteer at the shelter in the city I work in, a good drive away. Anywho, the shelter here has three cat "colonies" where the cats just mingle and you can come and go at your leisure. On the way out the door my dad instructed mother not to let me bring any cats home. On the way in? Dad says, "Maybe we should get a cat. I think I would get used to it." Hahaha. He's been insisting he _hates_ cats for the longest time. In the past few years, though, he's liked every cat he's met. Of course mother said no. Oh, right, I have a point.
My mother says, "why would anyone _not_ get a cat there?" My point exactly. I mean, you can get them free in the newspaper all the time, but then you pay a full cost spay/neuter plus shots and the vet exam. In June the felines are half price at the shelter and you get everything with the fee. Y'know? The spay/neuter, shots, plus blood work (leukemia testing and all that jazz) for like 40 bucks! What a deal! Plus, you won't be supporting those dumbasses who keep letting their cats get knocked up. (sorry, really passionate about this.)
Oh wait, there is a pinch of knitting content. My Alpaca Cloud arrived. Can I just mention I've never ever seen lace weight yarn in real life? Wow. I almost changed my mind. And then I proceeded ball up the first hank. I won't tell you how long that took me. Maybe the others can wait till I need them. Now to find out about a provisional cast on...

Intern
25 June, 2005, 09:29 am
Booo. I sat down to knit on the Chutes & Ladders socks last night and my wrist magically started hurting. With no knitting progress whatsoever, I shall tell you about my new job.
Two weeks down and 10 to go here. They already asked for my last day date so they could inform security or something. Yeesh. My official title is Information Management Intern. So far they've been tossing me requests for information and then I get to pull the goodies out of the database and format it so it's useful. Sometimes they just have a report that needs to be reformatted.
They just introduced me to a new project. I get to write a small program to dig out the data automagically and produce a little report based on the number they put in the box.
So far the biggest holes in my fantasy are that I'm dealing with dental information (yucky, hate teeth!!) and that I'm playing with insurance numbers that mostly mean nothing to me. One of the first things I said to my new supervisor.. "It's hard to believe I'm getting paid for this." I know. They could have had me for free, or even minimum wage. Well, maybe not. ;) The other bad news is that sitting on a computer all day aggravates the carpal tunnel syndrome. It's worst when I have to use another person's computer and I feel too guilty to adjust her chair and keyboard and all that jazz. Though, I don't think she's ever there so maybe she wouldn't notice for months..?

Are you a yarn snob?
22 June, 2005, 07:22 pm
"You are a yarn omnivore! Whether expensive or cheap, you use the right yarn for the project. People you knit for wear the items you knit because practical items like baby sweaters are machine washable but luxuries are luxurious!"
Pretty well on target. Some of the responses didn't quite fit.
What are you?

Enablers
22 June, 2005, 07:14 pm
Haha! All of you!
Good thing you saved some room in the frog pond for me, Jill. I started Chutes and Ladders and twisted the join. Duh? I've never done that before so it took me awhile to recognize it. There I was, knitting along assuming it just looked funny. We'll give it another go tonight.
Psst, I have the Sock Landscape, I think, and it came in hank-type things. No ballin' this either? Oh, and your seaweed sock is quite pretty. What a stinky name for such a nice sock..
Thanks for the magic word, Rebecca. I'm now anxiously awaiting some Alpaca Cloud for a Flower Basket Shawl. Debating some natural sock yarn. My friend requested a pair of rainbow socks and rainbow sock yarn doesn't seem to be the easiest thing to find. Maybe some Twinkletoes on eBay, though..
Thanks for stopping by, Anna. If you have a blog, drop another comment, I'd love to visit :)

What to do.. what to do..
19 June, 2005, 01:35 pm
I want to start socks but..? I was thinking the Pretty Comfy socks or the Diagonal pattern for my Cascade Fixation, but the one pattern recommends size 4 needles and I don't have a pair of circulars in that size.
Onto the current Six Sox Knit Along patttern, Chutes & Ladders. But I only have Patons Kroy Socks with a gauge of 7 sts/inch. I could probably get what I need with size 1s but I'm too lazy to swatch.
Onto the Knit Picks I've been wanting to try. But I'm too lazy to wind it into balls.
So I'm just wasting away my knitting time.. The Project Linus blanky's been hurting my hands and wrists so it's on a mini vacation. I don't want to sit in my room knitting or I'd work on the baby thing.
Feeling sorry for me yet? Didn't think so.. :)

*sniff*
17 June, 2005, 08:23 pm
My LYS is closing. Of course, I've only been there a couple times in the year it's been open. Lately I feel the only thing I can afford to buy in a LYS is sock yarn n such for small projects. But it was convenient for the needles and tools.. And some day I planned to shop there when I have more $. Oh yeah, my point. There's a 40% off just about everything sale with post card. If you don't have the card it's 20% off everything. And she said I can keep it for next time. Only two weeks, though. Soo I got 10 balls of heathered green Wool-ease and a retractable tape measure. Thinkin' about some baby yarn.. And I never did get to the knitting nights. *pout*
