Disappointment on the Knitting Front     16 July, 2005, 03:29 pm
Bah. No knitting lately with the CTS um, acting up. It happens monthly, coordinating with another lovely event you're probably all too familiar with. And sometimes just for the hell of it. I'm sure it doesn't help that I sit on a computer all day these days. I'm really starting to question that. Knitting, the career choice, too. But I'm not changing that after 4 years of college and the debt that comes with it, which, by now, could be a down payment on a modest house or a lovely vehicle paid for with cash. Kinda like piano.. and the flute.. I appear to be drawn toward the things that provoke it. Anywho...

I frogged the Chutes and Ladders socks. I wasn't paying attention when I made the heel flaps of 3 inches and it didn't hit me right away that the rest of the sock would be harmed. The cuff was perfect but the foot would have fit a giant.

Here's a close-up of a "before" picture.

And "after."

Regia Jubilee I didn't reallly want

Birthday Girls!
Pokie celebrated #3 on Sunday

Sassy celebrated #12 on Tuesday

These are olddd, but they're the lovelies my co-workers gave me on my 2nd last day..

P.S. Apparently red-eye (or yellow or whatever) is supposed to be really easy to fix these days. But I'm following the directions and it's not working!

Did someone say "sale?"     14 July, 2005, 06:18 pm
Uh-huh! Knit Picks, Dancing sock yarn, $2.99/ball.. with free shipping on top of that? (with magic word socks) Good deal.

But, in my excitement I mis-read and ordered Regia instead of my first Opal. Bah. Just what I needed. But y'know, I'm in the running for some Opal on eBay, and if that doesn't pan out, then there's a Second Chance offer on another ball of Opal waiting for me. So one way or the other, I will get to try it out. Now, trade the Regia, keep it for another decade, or sell it?

I've been working on the Project Linus blankie and baby thing. Boring picture stuffs.. sorry ~.~

Stash Organizing     9 July, 2005, 05:51 pm
Woohoo! I have almost all of my stash in storage bins! It took going out to buy two more. That wasn't the plan but.. oh yeah, um, there's still about 25 or 30 balls flying around the room. Mostly that stuff I found on sale. Bah. All I need to do now is get the stinky acrylics into the little stash spreadsheet, oh, and maybe like, use it? My mom and I banded together and went through closets today. After taking a trunkful of clothes and stuffed animals and some other stuff to Good Will, I was able to get two of the bins into my closet. And since these days I actually use my closet on a daily basis, it's wonderful to be able to get clothes out without holding junk in until I can get the door shut again, lest I have junk spilling out into the room..

One of these days I need to run through my picture folder and created a finished projects page. Just to remind myself I have finished things and they were decent.

Last, a crappy picture of some of the snuggles I made. The others, including the cute sheepy ones, were sort of an after thought and the camera was already put away.

Splurging     8 July, 2005, 10:08 pm
Woohoo! Got my first big check today. It was kind of coincidence that someone mentioned Simly Socks Yarn and they happened to have some Opal in the sale bin. Just one ball, for testing purposes. I'm still trying to clear out drawers in my room so I can put the yarn in them rather than have it laying all over the floor. When I move out I either need to take all the dressers or leave them all, and they sure aren't coming with (four of them). So that's a whole 'nother can of worms. But that's a few months away :) I can knit it all between now and then, right? HAHAHA. I _finally_ got all my plants on the plant stand. Still a bit crowded, I'm separating and selling as fast as I can..

Debating some Pocky. I've been seeing it here and there online. I hate to pay 4 bucks shipping for something that costs less then 3..lol. Maybe I can find it locally.

Ripped the shawl. Hope to start again tonight, right after I check out the provisional cast on again.

Summer of Lace     7 July, 2005, 06:08 pm
I joined the Summer of Lace as I thought it a sign that right around the time I decided to try my first shawl, it popped up. And this morning, before work, (it's been a great day, er..) I saw this message that spoke to me.. about fixing errors. Because each row is obviously built upon the last, if you don't know what you did wrong, your mess can get horribly bigger. So right after I post this, I'm going to frog the shawl, before I change my mind. And before I start it again, I will cook the cord so it won't be so obnoxious this time around.

The internship is luke warm right now. In the mornings I can't work on what I wish to for a couple of reasons, so I'm expected to research and.. kill time I guess. It gets boring. I was finally given some test data to compare my program's results to and it seems one area is horribly inflated and others just a bit off. In any event, it feels like my skills are inadequate. I know that's not entirely true, but it feels like it. Part of the problem is that they took so long to get me the test data that I had already went ahead with other parts of the program, so now it's like taking a couple steps back. Eh. But the important part is, I'm learning. And making more money than I could have hoped for being a retail slave over the summer. :D

On My Mind     5 July, 2005, 07:19 pm
Visited the kittes again. They took turns in my lap. The shelter is full so all animals are "on sale." I know this situation is far from unique, with puppy and kitty season upon us. I feel so bad that I can't volunteer while I'm working full time and commuting. I only wish I had the money to share. And it's eating at me. I was able to whip up a number of Snuggles with my flannel. Then I ran out of batting. But I wanna do more. I'm thinking maybe I could hand knit some things and somehow sell them to give the money over the cost of materials to one of the two shelters in my area.

Any suggestions? I know hand-crafted goods are sooo undervalued on eBay, so I don't really know where I could sell them.. or where to turn for patterns that people wouldn't mind me using to sell the product. Or the best items. I would think small would be better, 'cause people would be willing to pay more than the cost of the yarn..

Flower Basket Shawl     3 July, 2005, 10:15 am
I was poking around for pictures of finished flower basket shawls and found there's a pretty popular pattern from Interweave Knits. I'm kinda wondering what the difference is. I'm assuming the Fiber Trends pattern gives more options as far as yarn weight and finished size. Oh well, suppose it doesn't matter now. :) I messed up mine again and as before, couldn't find the mistake so I wasn't gonna bother trying to frog it. Maybe they'll pop out when I block it and I'll be kicking myself..?

I'm working on sewing Snuggles out of flannel I had hanging around. Gotta roll and bake some dough for some cherry cheese loaves. After that I think I will rent some movies and visit the kitties at the shelter.

Pokie gets to shaking every time she hears fireworks. Yesterday she panted up a little puddle while she was hiding under the computer desk. We've been keeping the windows closed (hard, when we have such beautiful weather) and turning the tv up. Poor thing will be frazzled by the time it's over. Hopefully next year my parents will invest in tranquilizers or something.

On that note, Happy Independence Day! A smidge early :)

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
