MMmMmm. Furryarns.com I'm thinkin MaineBearSOX and Zephyr. But first I have to wait to see if I'm employed in 3 weeks..

Turned the heels on the ribbed socks I'm working on. I don't know what my problem is, but I can never get that part right on the 2 circulars. So I use holders and rearrange afterward. I think it's in a good spot for the bus ride.

I got the stocking-shaped book of Christmas stockings the other day. Just 4 bucks on half.com. Have I mentioned I LOVE Christmas time? LOVE LOVE LOVE. Er. So. I think I'm gonna try a bit of color work with some Wool of the Andes from KP. And then I can get some more sock yarn and perhaps some of the new merino laceweight and that'll be enough for free shipping. *snort* Um, all assuming I'm employed in 3 weeks.

Oh, and my blog's one year birthday is tomorrow. It's expecting presents ;)

The Day After     14 August, 2005, 09:21 am
Stitches Midwest was decidedly great fun! Definitely on the to-do list for next year. I only stayed for 3 hours 'cause I had an evil headache allll day. The first go-round I made mental note of where I might wanna buy. The second go-round I bought. The third go-round I finished fondling and chose a t-shirt. In my defense, I only went over my tiny budget by like 2 dollars. If I go next year, I definitely wanna stop for some demonstrations. I don't know how I managed to not notice them, but as I perused the booklet in the bath this morning, I noticed some neat things I could have stopped for. Also on the downside, the parking garage? The stairwell? Puke. Mm, yummy. And my car was sounding oddly crunchy when I got off the highway. But it did what I asked it to do :D Oh yeah, at the last minute I decided I didn't want my camera to get scratched, so it stayed home.

Goodie bag.

Booklet with useful information. Mental note: thumb before entering.

Leaf Lace Shawl pattern I almost ordered a couple weeks ago. I picked through every vendor's Fiber Trends shawl patterns and gave up, and then I saw a binder of patterns on my last go-round. Ta-da!

Lorna's Laces Sheperd Sock in River. Oo-la-la! Um, those will be my most expensive pair of socks.

Super Sock & Baby or something like that. There's more of a greeny-tealish on the back side of the skein. One of these days, I'll break away from the blues and greens.

T-shirt that spoke to me. Lots of other fun t-shirts but most were in that baby-doll style that doesn't fit an un-skinny person so well..y'know? And the expo's t-shirt would have been the shirt of choice if it weren't orangey colored. What were they thinking? Hmmpf.

The fondling experience was to die for. It did talk me out of some yarn, though. Socks That Rock, for example. I've heard so many good things about it but their finished socks didn't feel very nice to me. WEBs was also there. I was seriously thinking about buying a mohair blend for the throw in one of my magazines, but I knew if I spent 50 dollars on yarn for a throw, the finished product would be a magnet for dog gnawing. Ooh, and there was linen, too. I left that behind, fearing it would hurt my hands :(

Ants in My Pants     13 August, 2005, 08:57 am
'cause I'm waiting to leave for Stitches! Yay. The plan is to leave a bit later so I can lunch in the car. But it's so hard. There are two icky things about today. The first is I have no one to go with, long drive, no one to make it look like I'm talking to someone when I'm babbling about the goodies around me. If my mother weren't working she'd probably tag along. (Um, and apparently I said "we" when I was talking to my dad about the drive, so now he thinks I'm on some mysterious voyage involving a romantic interest or something completely silly like that. No dad, this is all for the yarn experience. And the "we" refers to the voice in my head or something.) The second is, unemployment in 3 weeks is still looming, so I feel a tad guilty. Hopefully that will keep spending in check! Which will be hard, 'cause I'm bringing massive amounts of green stuff, in case I need to call a tow-truck or something, y'know.. (Ghetto car, remember me? Yeah, the one who fills your tank and gives you oil to eat? Please take me there and back, thanks.) I'm planning to remember the camera and take pictures, er, if they're allowed in and there's room in my purse. :D

In sad news, Miss Kiwi did die. I only hope she died before she fell off the perch, not the other way around. Go ahead, dad, ask me again if she suffered. Ahem. For 5 days. Which is like 5 weeks in human time. Without eating. Go ahead, ask me! Not that I'm promising a vet could have done anything, but what if they could have?

In better news, I made some progress on the baby thing. Thanks for the votes, guys! So one and a half of the front and back are done. Progress should be faster in a few weeks. This is kind of the boring part. I almost have the pattern memorized but it's a 16 row repeat on a lacy thing such that I can't really watch tv, nor is it occupying enough to work alone in silence..lol. The yoke and sleeves should be more entertaining.

Only did another couple rows on the FBS. Just past the point where I frogged last time..heh. Two steps forward, one step back. But it's okay.

Bye bye, birdie     10 August, 2005, 09:51 pm
I know, I never talk about the parakeet. Mostly 'cause she's not mine and she always used to attack me. But she stopped eating Friday or Saturday. I got a general antibiotic from the pet store because my parents refuse to take a bird to the vet (it's embarassing?). Anyway, I was going to let it run it's course and then take it to the vet if that didn't help. But I think it's too late. Tonight she's pretty shaky and all.. The only thing she'll eat is cookies. I started dunking them in the antibiotic but I think I'm too late. So anyway, my dad is telling me how bad he feels. Bull shit. Your bird is dying and all you can come up with is that it's cheaper to buy a new one? I wish I would have taken it to the vet. If it was my bird, I would have taken it a couple days ago. I'm such an ass. Argh. Time to go knit some socks..

Easy Knitting Pattern-a-Day Calendar     7 August, 2005, 05:21 pm
Wow, who knew 2006 was out already? Found it pokin' around on eBay for the 2005 version. I don't know about you, but I will not be caught waiting around to find it discounted in the new year. 'cause last year that idea was a complete flop. I'm ordering from Knitting Fairy. Calendars.com also has it for the same price, pre-order only I guess, but I can't figure out how to work the cart sooOo..

Sassy     7 August, 2005, 01:29 pm
I forgot to mention, everything came back benign!! She's been quite frisky. Her stitches come out tomorrow and then hopefully we won't have to yell at her for playing anymore :)

I started plain ribbed socks with some KP Sock Landscape I had and not only are the colors beautimous, the yarn feels absolutely wonderful knitted up. Mmm. They might be almost finished by the time I "need" them for knitting on the bus..hehe.

Mom and I are painting today so not much knitting. My idea, though. They wanted to rip the carpet out and I suggested we paint first. Sooo. Bamboo, the walls shall be. They used to be an off white that I called pink.

Stash count: 108.5 balls (got some bulky acrylic mailed...yes!)

Rip Rip     6 August, 2005, 08:36 am
the Flower Basket Shawl. Being stubborn, I tried to continue knitting while brother and SIL were here and soon I messed up and tried to tink a coupla stitches and made out with a huge hole. Fortunately with the lifeline I'm only back at repeat #6. I was only rounding #7 anyway..

I finally got rid of some acrylic. (Ahem, room for whatever I pick up at Stitches *g*) They are packed and waiting for the only UPS shipper in town to open. I don't live in a huge town, but it's not a village either, what the heck?

I think dad read my mind, or my blog. I came in from trying to dump oil into my car and he offered advice.. "If I were you, I'd unload that car before you have to start dumping money into it." Yeah, hi, I asked those questions two months ago, hours before I sunk a grand. And then he suggested I buy me a new little cavalier. I'd rather sink money into my current beloved car, thankyouverymuch. Besides, I might be unemployed in 4 weeks.

Tryin' to decide what to start to take on the bus for 6 hours in 2 weeks. Unfortunately the baby thing and shawl need the pattern and marking pad with them. The project linus blanket is pretty big and 6 hours with it would definitely kill my wrists. I wannttt to do the Six Sox, I vowed to finish all six this year, and so far I'm 0 for 1. But I'll need the pattern for those too. Maybe some ribbed jobbies with stripey stuff..

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
