First Day of School     7 September, 2005, 11:13 am
Not much happening in the knitting world. You may have noticed the new button on the side. Cloths for Katrina seems like the perfect opportunity for me to help. I have balls of cotton and some melt & pour soap waiting to be poured. I knit up a cloth and will start another soon. Aside from that, I finished a towel topper. Super speedy and I love having a towel hanging where I need it, not like, across the kitchen.. The picture was kinda crappy, so I didn't bother.

So, I have all my free time back and I don't know where to start. My first and only class isn't until late afternoon so here I sit. As soon as I finish listing some plants on eBay I will head to the library and try to find that pattern info. I thought my copy would have some useful bits like a title, but.. I'll send an email if I find anything, Jill.

Other than that I think we'll be baking and knitting. Not bad, eh?

Pictures     3 September, 2005, 05:43 pm

These are done in Knit Picks' Sock Landscape, Rocky Mountain Dusk or somethin' like that. I was going to leave a note for myself about using fewer stitches next time, but apparently my gauge varies so much over time that um, it wouldn't matter. See below.

Christening gown, front and back, or back and front. As you can see, the one on the left, which is "finished," is a bit narrower, about 19". The one on the right? 24". The one on the left? 172 rows and she's done. The one on the right? I stopped at 150 to size things up, noticing my yarn ball was getting a tad light. Apparently I was pretty tense over April & May..haha. I think I will rip, when I'm ready. Lovely pattern, well written, beautiful piece, but not knowing if they'd even use it for their baby boy doesn't really persuade me to start knitting like a mad woman to re-do those pieces. And I think I'd be bored with the pattern. I do hope to try it again, doing both at the same time, same for the sleeves. *sigh*

These funk-eh mice (or are they rats? I neglected to read carefully and they were supposed to be sport wt rather than worsted. oops.) are waiting to be stuffed. The one on the right needs to be felted, also. Little dilemma, though. Perfect timing--the shelter I volunteer at is short on toys. These were to be stuffed with cat nip but I think they'd get moldy in the wash. My other thoughts are either wool yarn or wool roving, and then stuff before felting, so they can all felt together. Or something. Any suggestions? I hear cats can smell synthetics. (Would you call them yarn snobs?)

These are the Amble socks. Third try on the Patons Kroy in Flagstone. Can I just mention that this stuff feels awful after knitting with the KP merino sock yarn? I told my mother that if these don't work out either, that yarn will be finding a new home. Hopefully 3rd time's the charm. I only have two pattern rows done. Decided to go the chart route in preparation for my two-colored Christmas stocking. Whew, that was way easier than I expected!!

Of course, no word on future employment. The good news is that they *finally* recognize there is a problem in terms of the amount of work to be done vs the amount of work their current employees can handle in a timely manner. Not that a part timer straight out of (or not even) college can um, fix that, but I could help, methinks. Hoping for an answer soon. The car needs attention, but if I'll be unemployed soon, and therefore driving much less, it can probably wait ;)

I am tired of hearing Brett Favre talk to his mommy. His whole family is okay and they don't even touch that Packer man who can't find his family. Is that odd? And what about the other masses of people rotting in their attic? How come we don't hear their sons talking on the television? Gas prices, anyone? There is disease, death, and destruction all over the news and all you can manage to complain about is the price of gas? I drive 80 miles a day and I can manage not to complain about the gas prices. What's your excuse? If it has anything to do with an S.U.V. I think you've just given me permission to laugh. Loudly. At you. And point.

Speaking of tragedy, the baby thing met up with some Tuesday night. Pictures coming, along with a finished sock picture. Be well.

Yeah. That new accelerated Internet or whatever? All it really means is the rest of us, who choose not to "buy" the b.s. (bad solution), suddenly and automagically have a 28.8 Kbps connection 95% of the time. How is that fair? As it is, I'll be my grandmother's age before a PDF file opens..*snicker snort* Time to go ISP shopping.. I fully intend to be able to afford cable Internet when I graduate. Ahem.

I went to visit the shelter kitties today. So cute. One long haired gray beauty claimed my lap and there were 2-4 cats circling at all times vying for attention. Sad stuffs. One clawed my leg in pure extasy as I scratched away. There was a pretty little girl I could have stuffed into my purse..lol. They're hiring, also. Must keep that in mind if things don't work out.

Finished another repeat on the flower basket shawl. Stalled now because I need to put in another lifeline, too much like sewing to be appealing.

No Knitting     27 August, 2005, 06:00 pm
Ugh. It's just, all those adult-ish things are ambushing me. And it's that kind of day. First I tried to re-apply for short term medical insurance. "I'm sorry, all of our agents are busy, can one call you back?" Certainly. Except that was nearly 5 hours ago. Did you mean tomorrow? or next week? or maybe never?

Next stop, pile of jobs to apply for. Oops, the first I don't really want. The second is no longer available. The third doesn't close for another week so it can wait.

Nexxxt. List some plants on eBay. What? My shiny laptop won't work? Wtf. Scary, but then I realized a) I have extend-a-warranty and b) there's built in restoration points (or whatever they call 'em). So a half hour later I was merrily on my way.

Back to insurance. Let's just apply online. Oh but wait, if you don't pay by credit card, you can wait for the email, print the application, and mail it. Okay, but the link in the email? Won't open. That's enough fun in the world of important stuffs.

My internship was extended for a couple weeks while they decide if they'd like me till December. What is the hold up? I'm cheap labor and it sounds like I might pay for myself anyway. The amount of money they must have spent trying to determine if they need me? Heh-heh. Part of me hopes to know soon, but if the answer is nix, maybe they can sit on that till my last day :)

I'm only four pattern repeats away from finishing the back of the baby thing! That leaves sleeves and a yoke!

Blanket Finished     23 August, 2005, 08:14 pm
Finally! Unfortunately I only used half the skeins I bought for it. I think I might just donate the rest..

Picture's lumpy 'cause I took it on the bed, which I never make. (Don't tell anyone.)

I wrote up the pattern in case anyone's looking for an easy baby blanket. Easy Textured Blanket Original name, huh? As soon as I wash it and check where to drop this baby off, it will be in the hands of Project Linus. Warm fuzzies.

No word on the employment thing yet. But I found a few entry-level positions to apply for. And three of the four only accept resumes/applications/whatever until September first, so I must get moving. I honestly didn't think I'd find people hiring for next year already.

Holy Batman     21 August, 2005, 08:29 am
School starts in just two weeks! Can't wait, honestly! One class and one essay to go here! Snuck up on me with all the job excitement. I rolled out my first real live "software" on Friday. It was a small piece but the people that will be using it seem pleased so far. In fact, my head is growing, such that one of these days I won't be able to get out the door. I'm half expecting a mail box full of issues waiting for me on Monday..lol. Never made a program that anyone actually ever used.

So yeah, they're still trying to get me an extended stay, but things don't look too promising due to budgetary worries. I caught myself thinking about it last night. Now that I've tasted the well-paying, 9-5 sort of lifestyle, this is gonna be really, really hard. At least it should be short-lived. I definitely don't want to go back to retail-slave-dom, unless it's pet or craft related, so that wipes out everything in my small town. Unless I work in the city in which I go to school, but then I'll be driving up there just to make 6 bucks an hour..lol. I'm thinking about going through a temp staff place since I don't honestly intend to be working the next job past 4 or 5 months. And lastly, my old job might take me back but I think I'd rather have any other job (except food service) just for something new. I've considered sitting, well, unemployed for four months, but the day I do that is the day my car will take one massive dump, I'm sure. The ideal situation? Either this place hires me and wants me forever, or I find more of a forever job somewhere else and they'll let me start while I'm still in school. I wonder how desperate these companies are.. might be time to find out..bleh.

Oh, this is a knit blog? Well, I worked on my socks on the way to Chicago yesterday. It was a really nice day. I finished the gusset decreases. I was a little worried, as the things were looking huge in the foot, so I stopped. When I got home and tried them on, they were a perfect fit. Yay. And they feel so lovely. Yum. I did leave one hole when I picked up stitches. I think I'll leave it. A little vent never hurt any feet, eh? Picture sometime soon.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
