Baby Cardigan     9 October, 2005, 11:59 am

Eh, can't see much here. Still working on my photo taking skills. Just waiting for buttons. I, queen, or a least princess, of procrastinating during the finishing process, made sleeve and button bands AND wove in all the ends AND seamed this thing all in the same day. In just two sittings!! This is the 12 month size Garter Stitch Baby Cardigan made in TLC Cotton Plus in navy blue. Love this yarn. I'm pleased with how it turned it, but it is definitely no Trellis :) I had an a-ha moment with the weaving of ends. Duplicate stitching garter stitch clicked, even with dark yarn. So then I was on a roll..

I immediately started my Christmas stocking and spent two hours on it to the tune of Legally Blonde. Oopsy daisy. As the movie ended I stepped back to survey my progress. What's that? A dropped stitch? But I wasn't even missing any stitches.. I did have great fun unravelling the dropped stitch. Not so great fun re-winding my skeins of yarn. I was fair-isling! And it was easy! I mean, untangling balls of yarn isn't great and it took me awhile to get the hang of the _loose_ stranding, so it was probably good that I had to rip it out.

Ooh, and I applied for another job. I was going for a third today until I realized I wasn't really qualified for that one..

Christmas in October     8 October, 2005, 10:40 am

Those are all greens, reds, and whites, quite by accident.

Sorta funny. The day before my yarn came, my friend, who previously requested rainbow socks, modified his request to blue socks. So of course I had to place another order, (AdNoShp took care of the shipping) and some lace merino hopped into my virtual shopping cart. I had considered dying or some Twinkletoes on eBay, but I should probably just assume a guy needs machine washable socks. Mystery shawl, here I come! Shipped out yesterday...

Here's the back and part of the front of the easy baby cardigan. I now have the front and back finished. Need to make some sleeve band or something and a button band. Which reminds me, need to buy buttons.

Reading Magazines in the Book Store     7 October, 2005, 11:25 am
My dad and I are in disagreement about this. What do y'all think? I go to the bookstore, sit on the floor, and page through the magazines. I figure Barnes and Nobles has benches conveniently about 3 feet away from the magazine racks, they must be expecting people to read them, no? Except this a local bookstore so there's no benches and I make-do. Now that I type that, I can see how one would be embarassed to go with me but.. Everyone pages through the mags and only a portion of them buy. Even at the department store where I used to work. Is that wrong?

Oo, my Knit Picks box came. Later :)

Mystery Shawl Along 2     5 October, 2005, 08:02 am
Anybody doin' it? Looks like great fun. I think if I'd had lace yarn last nice I would have impusively cast on right away. But I don't. I'm only on pattern repeat #11 of 18 or so on the Flower Basket Shawl anywho. I'm still on the first of three hanks of yarn. That's what I need, two shawls at once, seeing as I'm moving at a snail's pace here. I'm guessing there's over 200 stitches now as it's taking a good 20 minutes per row. I could be like 80 by the time I finish. :D

I finished the back of the baby sweater. I forget how fast worsted weight stuff works up. Onto the front. Stalled last night 'cause I figured I'd mess something up in my sleepy state.

Poco the parrotlet's golden birthday was yesterday. I completely forgot until I was at work. After I get my game on (ha. haha.) at the career fair today I'll stop off and get him a little something. I actually submitted a resume this past weekend. Aiming to submit another one this coming weekend. It needs a whole application though. Yucky-poo. I hate-hate-hate applying for jobs. I can hardly sleep these days 'cause I'm so excited about what the future will bring. So I can go to any potential interviews with raccoon eyes. Oh, did I mention how many typos there are on Monster.com listings? Makes ya wonder. Always in the listings I'm actually interested in, too. :/

Mosaic Socks     1 October, 2005, 05:47 pm
Okay, I have to admit, when I saw the picture at the top of the pattern I was thinking "ew.." so I went ahead and placed my Knit Picks order without consideration for the newly released Mosaic Socks. But today I looked through the whole bit and saw the pictures in the middle and kinda like 'em. Not to mention some "In Progress" pictures that are stunning.. Except I think I'd have to carry the mosaic part down the foot or I just wouldn't be happy..hehe. But I sort of already made up my mind to try one of the Townsend KAL socks..like the Cascading Leaves. And I even ordered some nice green Essential. Decisions-ugh! Buy more yarn and take the opportunity to try a new heel flap/gusset, or use what's comin' via the mailman to try my first Townsend pattern... hum.

Eh, has anyone noticed a difference in the colors in the KP catalog vs website? I was going to get some yarn for another Sophie, but when I saw the color I picked online, I didn't want it anymore..lol. So picky lately, and I was never good at picking colors to begin with!

I saw my first real live Katrina evacuee at the Wal-mart today. I only found out 'cause he had a Red Cross debit card and the cashier asked about it. I'm interested to see how the towns down there um, re-build. Which got me to wondering.. if we had multiple tornadoes and my home was destroyed, would I come back? Or stay where I took temporary shelter?

Oh yeah, HAPPY OCTOBER! :D

Tricks     30 September, 2005, 12:46 am
Yes, they did pull out a last minute trick in the form of another two weeks of employment, via an email waiting for me yesterday morning. To celebrate, I think I need a Knit Picks order. Now to wait for the next Six Sox pattern. Don't wanna buy yarn for it if I don't like it. I only have ruby colored solid sock yarn which matches none of my funkier stuff.

Here's a boring baby cardigan picture. That's navy TLC Cotton Plus and it feels pretty nice, even after washing. Not like cheap acrylic but not like cheap cotton..oddly enough. This is the back.

I'm quite pleased with my productivity today. I've nearly finished my 15 page paper, just a few more sentences, a references page, and the appendix. *groan* I've listed a bunch of plants on eBay (at rock bottom prices, no less, gotta get moving before winter arrives). Made sure I can still fit into my pants suit for the career fair next week. Now to run errands and get rid of this resume. How hard can it be?

Call this number if you haven't, it's fun.

Henry's Attic     28 September, 2005, 09:26 am
Wow! Co-oping right now. Me want. I could try my hand at dying, right? No. As of right now, tomorrow is my last day. Unless they pull a last minute trick out of their ass, I mean, hat, I'm gone. Who am I kidding, anyway? I have enough yarn to last me for like, a year or two :D I did notice quite a difference in yardage between Mystical Creation Yarns fingering weight and Henry's Attic fingering weight. Like, double the yardage in a pound, literally. Interesting...

I used some orange smoothie Suave on the socks and they only softened slightly. At least they smell good. Probably not enough to make me wear them. I can't believe I spent all that time on such nice socks that feel scratchy and crappy. Lesson? It pays to spend the extra dollars for yummy yarn. Pout pout..

Swatched for baby sweater, sending it through the wash today and hopefully casting on today. Can't believe I only have one project on the needles. Eerie.

Stash count: 89.5 balls (I haven't even been using much, just updating it.)

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
