A preemie hat, that's a quarter in the corner. I've been hanging out on the Helmetheads KAL list for a bit. Since I lost my paychecks I've been refraining from buying yarn, and no suitable colored wool in this stash. But then this came up on the list. A knitted Christmas tree in Cincinnati! Doesn't that sound fun? Of course, all the goodies will be delivered to either the troops or NICUs after display. So I dug through the stash and whipped this hat out in an hour and 15 minutes.

I challenge you to do the same! Just one hat, or one pair of slippers from your stash, just an hour or two of your precious time! Looks like they've got a ways to go and the deadline is November 10th, so every bit will help, methinks.

The second mystery shawl in the Vineyard color of Shadow. Love the color. This is the first two clues, and they just posted the 4th, so I'm a bit behind.

What else.. eh. Our Hobby Lobby opened yesterday! We stopped today and I was disappointed with the needle selection. Isn't it funny? I've never used size 5 needles before and now I have (all) 3 of my projects on them. Ideally I'd like two more circulars for the sweater and the mystery shawl. I suppose, ideally I'd finish one shawl before starting the next. ;)

Finished stocking. Yes, yes, it is a little odd shaped. I followed all measurements except I didn't bother checking gauge, so I'm assuming that's it. I only used half the yarn I had purchased. Might need to make some felted ornaments with the rest. I have yet to find dye magnets, so I won't try to block until (or if) I do.. I did, however, buy those corkboard blocks for children for future blocking endeavors. (On clearance, no less.)

The start of the v-neck cardigan. That is so not the real color. The software I used to edit my pictures didn't come on this computer. I'm heartbroken. I have Paint and HP Image Zone Express. Between the two I can crop and shrink my pictures and fix some of the coloring stuffs, but it's just not the same. :/

The neighbor's tree. Ours is the green one on the left edge of the photo..haha.

The girls, just because.. and now you know who controls the remote in this house.

My Secrets     18 October, 2005, 04:40 pm
Jill asked about color work. This is only my first go-round, well, second since I ripped the first attempt, but I'll give you what I found.

The obvious-knit loosely. I also stopped every time I switched double pointed needles to check the floats(?) to make sure they weren't too tight. I just recently started knitting with the stocking inside out. So far so good, and a lot less work than stopping after each needle.

My Knitting Pattern-a-Day calendar came today! I'm so close to ripping it open and checking it out.

Emily needs     17 October, 2005, 12:05 am
So I saw this thing goin' around.. whereby you put you "[my name] needs" into Google and pick some good results. Here you go:

1. Emily needs to be whipped into shape by Nanny 911...
2. Emily needs psychiatric care.
3. Emily needs a series of exemptions to Harvard’s administrative rules.
4. Emily needs a backbone...
5. Emily needs a playmate.
6. Emily needs to help get the old lady out.
7. Emily needs to write some Python code.
8. Emily needs a comfortable and inspirational place to brainstorm her money-making ventures.
9. Emily needs a drink.
10. Emily needs her prosthesis.

Picture Stuff     15 October, 2005, 05:40 pm

New yarn stuffs. The stuff on the left is KP Essential in Dusk, maybe? The stuff on the right is KP Shadow in Vineyard for the second Mystery Shawl.

Christmas stocking. Little further now but you get the idea. My floats or whatever were still a bit tight at the beginning and there's some puckering. I'm hoping some of that will block out - if I decide to try that. The cranberry is running onto the cloud just being knitted with it. Maybe I can swatch with the two and try washing that with a dye magnet and see what happens..

There's a Wool-ease swatch in the dryer at the moment for a Knitting Pure & Simple top down cardigan - the stockinette sweater I was referring to. Not much else happenin'. Didn't even have anything to work on in the car as we headed out of town this morning.

Poo-bah!     14 October, 2005, 10:13 pm
Normally this would be a 3 day weekend but.. I am so bored already. I can't concentrate so one of these days I'll cast on for a sweater full of stockinette. Yeesh. I messed up the flower basket shawl and I'm back to the start of the 12th repeat. I made a heel flap and turned the heel on the Christmas stocking, but stopped there because it's back to the color work. I made myself a to-do list so hopefully that helps get me (to)doing something.

In better news, my dad decided on DSL and the modem should be in the mail and to our house in the next few weeks. Oh, my, gosh! Except I'll be able to read my mail so fast that I'll be bored sooner. Oh yeah, my new nephew decided he could wait a little longer to enter the world :)

That's about it. Sorry I'm laggin' on the pictures. Just waiting to be uploaded..

Hello, Unemployment     13 October, 2005, 06:14 pm
So today was indeed my last day. But they assured me it was only because of budgetary issues. It was a hard day. Fortunately I didn't cry until I was driving home and I opened the card, which contained bits from my co-workers. They were all happy to be references. So I found a few more places to mail my resume.. I'm debating applying at a temp staff sort of place just to switch things up a bit until I graduate and get that real job. It does mean lots of time to knit, though!

On that note, pictures are waiting on the camera. And my Pattern-a-Day calendar is _finally_ on its way! I know, it's only October. But I ordered it in like, August..

Is anyone else missing their Yahoo! Groups mail? I usually get 50-ish emails a day on my Yahoo! mail account from Yahoo! groups but they are all strangely silent today. So I'm bored. Tempted to go read mags (hehe) but then I'll probably buy, and I don't need that right now.

Oh, did I mention our computer took a dump? Yeah, my parents sent me after work one day to pick out a new one. It's been that kind of week.. and my new nephew's trying to get here a few weeks early, to top it off.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
