I Can't Believe My Luck..     30 December, 2005, 10:36 am
Wow, I was supposed to work this morning but it was cancelled. We ran out of work yesterday and only had a half day. That, kids, is a four day weekend! Which is kind of perfect because I've developed this cold that wouldn't allow me to talk on the telephone anyway... To top it off, we have a snow advisory for 3-5 inches.

We were going to do the visiting thing this weekend. We'll see what gives with the snow. It'll probably be cleaned up by tomorrow morning, if we even get as much as they predict. The last snowstorm? When we were supposed to get 6-8 inches? We ended up with a puny four inches or so.

Anywho, I'm going to sit in front of the tv with some movies, the dogs, and my knitting, waiting for snow. Have a great new years and be safe and all that jazz!

Knitting!     28 December, 2005, 10:46 am

Here's the scarf my dad got for Christmas. It's a modified rib pattern from a Creative Knitting magazine. The yarn is Knit Picks' Merino Style in Cinnamon. Because I finished it the day before it was gifted, I didn't block it properly. I tried steam blocking, that was kinda fun. Didn't bother with pins or anything. Kinda obvious, too. It should be another inch or so wider and a few inches longer. Note to self: cast on tighter next time.

Some socks for Children in Common. The yarn is kool-aid dyed Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool. You'd think I was at the egg nog or something, with one horizontal toe seam and one vertical toe seam. I did these over like a week and my gauge varied enough to make one bigger than the other. Sad.. Hopefully the kidlets don't mind too much.

Back to the Fishtail Scarf and the socks I need to frog. My mom got some yarn yesterday to make a scarf in the same pattern as my dad's, in the same yarn as her first hat. That should be really neat.

Oh, and maybe a couple Christmas pictures.

Sassy's after some chocolate flavored treats and Pokie's trying to get at her new rope toy. No worries, they share..er, with help :)

Christmas!     25 December, 2005, 09:45 am
Merry Christmas y'all!!

Our big thing was yesterday. All that's left now is leftovers and a big shindig at my grandma's house tonight. We had a nice dinner last night and afterwards, for a little while, the whole family was all in the same place at the same time :D There was even a fire in the fireplace. My parents and my brother all got handcrafted things, which is so not my usual policy. That's how the cookie crumbled this year, though. I received a pot and pan set, a toaster, a pajama set, some body spray, and a cd holder. A nice mix of "necessities" and surprises :)

Back to knitting. And time to start something new methinks. Then again, I do have a few things going already.

Christmas Present to Self     21 December, 2005, 06:05 pm
I can't decide what to get, though. Little Knits is having a sale on sock yarn which includes Lorna's Laces, and Furr Yarns is having a sale, 20% off everything! Including Zephyr and their sock yarns. Orr I'm thinkin' along the lines of enough wool for a real sweater. I want it all! How greedy is that?! Better sleep on it.

I have one ball to go on the scarf, and then it should be blocked. I finished the last of my school stuff today, just waiting for grades to come in and the official nod. :D

Ever wonder where the Christmas tree came from? See what what the History Channel has to say. Rumor has it, it dated to pre-Christian days. Aparrently it has more to do with a sick god, seen in the shorter days of sunlight, than the birth of anyone special. Er, it's associated with a few other pagan celebrations also. Great way to bring people together, no?

On that Christmas note, people seem to be getting snippy, both at work and online. I dunno what the deal is. Take a chill pill and come back when you're ready, yeesh.

What I Did Today     17 December, 2005, 11:01 pm

Sorry, I'm paranoid. I considered cutting my head off instead, it was a toss up. Yes, that's a letter in my diploma-holder. It details what we should do if we're worried about _actually_ graduating, y'know, when they tally grades n stuff. Below is the trunk I received from my parents. It was my mom's idea, and a good one at that. I should have known. We were at Hobby Lobby one day and she asked me what I thought of them and which one I liked..haha. Hell-o. Anywho, she took my brother one day to get it but then had second thoughts or something so she took me to pick one out for a graduation present. Doubles as yarn storage and an end table. Cool, no? My final this past Wednesday got snowed out so I still have to go back to school. Ah well.

Not much exciting on the knitting front. Workin' on the scarf. Tomorrow I'm going to my grandma's to make Christmas cookies. Mmm!

Tree     14 December, 2005, 10:14 am

Merry Christmas! Ignore the industrial strength powerstrip.

Just for the record, we're supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow with much wind today, making "travel very hazardous or impossible." Come ON. It's my last class. I just wanna present my final project, hand in my paper, and leave. Bah! Okay, it's not that bad. I love snow, and excuses to miss the commute to class.. heh. And sit inside all day like knitting or something. But really. Graduation is in a matter of days. Rumor has it we're going to the pancake house afterward. *drools*

Yummy Yarn     10 December, 2005, 05:46 pm
This just kinda popped into my head as I was doing my laundry this morning. I usually feel guilty for splurging on expensive yarn. Then I realized my stash is mostly made of cheap yarns. When I find them especially cheap, I buy maybe twice as much as I would otherwise. And then it sits there. So if I splurge only when I truly need yarn, and then actually use it, that's kinda like buying a whole bunch of cheap stuff and letting it sit around till I need it. Not that I'm not a sucker for a good deal...

Anywho, here's the emerald Zephyr that arrived yesterday. So pretty. Sorry the picture doesn't convey that well.

I need to finish my dad's present and finish the big boring socks before I use any of that.

Oh, I didn't get that job I mentioned.

On Thursday at work they started me on the phones, but in 2 hours no one bit. Yesterday, over six hours, I got 3 or 4 takers. This is sad, but I was excited to get to work. I hate phones and don't feel comfortable with them, so for me to call up businesses and ask strangers to take a lo-ong survey is something of an accomplishment. That excitement should fade quickly.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
