TV Socks?
22 March, 2006, 10:07 am
What exactly are tv socks? Dictionary.com wasn't aware of any such thing. I was browsing my local county fair's knitting categories and slippers are grouped with TV Socks for the ladies, and there is no separate category for just plain socks. Men have separate categories for TV slippers and socks. Eh? Seeing as I'll be here longer that expected, maybe it'd be fun to enter some stuff in the fair. I'm thinkin' a hat and some socks, maybe some slippers or mittens, or some dishcloths. Did I mention my dad asked for a pair of socks? I sort of forgot about that until now.. maybe for Christmas.
I've finished clue 3 of the mystery shawl. I hope to get a lifeline in today and move onto clue 4.

Booties
19 March, 2006, 11:10 pm
Here they are, my booties! These will be in the mail tomorrow. Whew, my wrists are glad to be done with the acrylic. The blue ones up top are Lion Brand's Pound of Love - by far the softest after everyone took a trip through the washer and dryer. The green ones are Red Heart's Fiesta. The blue and pink ones on the bottom are Red Heart's Cotton Twist - not as soft as POL but still pretty soft. I could see that for a summer sweater or something like that.
The ripple baby afghan is finished, washed, and folded.. waiting for a picture and then it will be dropped off. I started some Opal socks and finished the cuff so far. I'm wondering if people rave about Opal because of how it wears or how it looks, or both? Speaking of wash and wear, both my Paton's Kroy socks and my Knit Picks' Essential socks have been washed several times. I think the Kroy is a tad softer but is also fuzzier and a little pilly. The Essential looks much nicer..
Otherwise I've been concentrating on the mystery shawl. All the clues have been released so I better get my butt in gear. I find I don't like to think as much in my knitting these days. Most times I'd rather have stockinette in front of a movie or something.

Mystery Shawl
12 March, 2006, 04:08 pm
Yay, clue 2 is done! Just need to put a lifeline in and print off the next clue. Still behind, though :)
I wound some balls of sock yarn while watching the JFK movie on the history channel last night. Pretty good, don't know if it was 4 hours good, but they did seem to keep it moving pretty well. We were shown a clip in high school, but apparently there's some controversy over how much of the movie is really fact. Interesting stuff. Anywho.. Yes, I'm itching to get another pair of socks on the needles. I'm a few inches from the end of the baby ripple 'ghan. Maybe after that.. At least the yarn will be ready.
I have 6 pair of baby booties done. I went stash diving for yarn this afternoon and don't know what to use next.

Mystery Shawl & Booties
8 March, 2006, 01:00 pm
I finished clue 1 of the mystery shawl over the weekend. No pictures 'cause I can't get it very stretched out on my needle. I'm stalled on clue 2 'cause I've been working on finishing the rippled baby 'ghan.
I also finished 3 pair of booties and started the fourth. I'm aiming for 10 pair by March 22 or so. A couple ladies have already surpassed and perhaps doubled my goal so y'know, no prize for me. There is an abundance of free baby bootie patterns on the 'net lacking finished measurements or gauge or anything like that. I guess that would be one reason for purchasing one.
One week of the month is gone and I have yet to touch this month's yarn budget. I'm half hoping (if I ever get my crap together) that I will need to travel a bit to the test site for certification and that one of the sites might be in a city with a few yarn shops. You can tell it's been awhile since I've had to take any sort of test. I've learned a lot in prepping for it but how do you know when you're ready?! Honestly, the worst that could happen is: I spend a whole week's paycheck on the sitting fee and get a failure letter about a month later. Really, how bad is that? Ha.
I'm gonna go throw a pizza in the oven and knit a bit. And maybe study.

Booties n Stuff
4 March, 2006, 06:14 pm
Do you ever feel like you're stuck in a bad dream? Getting that feeling lately. I know I can only say that because I've had a pretty privileged life, but that doesn't make it easier :p Back to square one with the job search, and there's not much in my area right now. As for certification, I narrowly passed one practice exam and narrowly failed two others. A little less than half of the topics were never discussed in my classes, nor are they in the average text book, so trying to round up an informative summary is kinda daunting.
In the knit world, I still haven't finished clue 1 of the mystery shawl..haha. It's big enough for a circular needle now and things are moving a little faster. I'm aiming to start clue 2 by the end of the weekend.
Oh, booties? I joined this Yahoo! group that accepts all sorts of donations, handcrafted or store bought. Great way to use up oddballs and ucky acrylics in my stash. They're low on baby items so one of the challenges for this month is to get some baby hats and booties in. I can finish a pair during a movie - pretty satisfying. So basically instead of working on getting a big project off the needles I'm doing a bunch of little ones. Oh well. And this isn't even something I can win, being up against ladies that work faster than me, and don't seem to craft for themselves..
Did y'all hear Knit Picks is discontinuing their currect colors of Dancing? And apparently they aren't sure if they're bringing new colors in. I'm debating. Might just have to add some of that to the stash.
While I'm babbling, I caught one of the dogs chewing on a safety pin this morning, while it was open. Not the smartest puppy in the puppy patch. :)
Alright, back to knitting, hopefully I will have progress and pictures next time.

Glad Raggs
26 February, 2006, 11:46 am
Here they are. Sorry for the huge picture. Shrinking it more obliterated the pattern and beading.. Anywho, these are the Glad Ragg socks from the Six Sox KAL. They are done in Brown Sheep Wildfoote in the Purple Splendor colorway. There are three beaded repeats followed by four beadless repeats, mostly 'cause I only read the first two pages of the pattern. The beads are a blue glass bead with a purply-pink hole.
I actually had a pretty good day at work yesterday (record number of completed surveys in a day - for me) and then I spent a buncha time grooming my violets. So not much knitting. Last week I figured granny squares out so I made a few of those and I also finished the back of the baby cardigan.
I am behind on the mystery shawl. I am not feeling the double pointed needles. Can't wait to get it on a circular. Between that and some headaches of late I'm preferring the granny squares and ripple afghan..

Shoulda Coulda Wouldas
24 February, 2006, 09:30 am
I nonchalantly tossed my Jaywalkers into the laundry the other day and they shrunk enough to turn a tight fit into something I can't get onto my feet at all. They felt so soft after being washed, too. The good news is they shrunk both length and width so they fit my mom pretty well. Guess we know who didn't swatch. It's not that I'm slow, I'm just uh, stubborn.. *nod*
I finished the Gladd Raggs except to pull the toes shut and weave in the ends. I like how they turned out but, you guessed it, I didn't swatch. It seems Wildfoote might have a tendency to shrink from what I've read. These will be handwashed, maybe that will help. Pictures next time.
I have to work tomorrow. I am not at all happy about it, except now I have a little extra $ to replace my shrunken socks :D Some days I just really dread going in. I got another rejection letter and there's not too much floating around in my area right now career-wise, so I've been refreshing my memory before I try for certification. At least it's something to keep ideas fresh and my motivation up.
