Here's the third mystery shawl. The camera said it was focused but apparently we're in disagreement about that. It measures 27" square unblocked. Maybe I'll block it after work tonight. I finished the knitting while watching Crash. That was not a good idea. I imagine I will have to watch it again some other time so I have a better shot at actually following the movie.

So I need to frog that baby sweater and then I will swatch for my sweater. Yes, you read correctly, I will swatch.

The End is in Sight!     8 April, 2006, 10:08 am
The end of the mystery shawl, that is. There are 12 rows left. I've decided no matter what the finished size, I'm not adding any more rows to the pattern. Between the black teeny tiny yarn and the 700+ stitches that will be in a round per my calculations, ehm, I'm not having any of that. Maybe it will be a table cloth instead. I imagine it would get more use that way anyway :) I'm anxious to start my sweater, but not before I'm down to 2 projects on the needles. Did I mention my mom is working on a sweater? Yeah, cruising along..

There was a message waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday. It sounds like good things are in the works, but I don't want to say anymore as there's a couple things that need to be worked out yet.

Oh, and after my celebratory splurge this week I received another skein of Opal in the mail.

Woohoooo!     5 April, 2006, 09:01 pm
Okay so Friday I drove to the exam site and was told I had to reschedule. Then I went hunting for the yarn shop and an advertising agency stood in its place. Three hours later I was home again feeling rather defeated.

Today I passed my exam and on the way home I stopped at the yarn shop, Yarns by Design in Neenah. The owner (or maybe employee, not sure) was of my favorite type - greeting me and asking if I needed help as I entered and then leaving me to fondle and drool until I was ready to check out. Great experience, though a little short. I quickly peeked at everything and stopped in front of the sock yarn rack and chose enough for three pairs and had to leave. Honestly, I only planned on getting two skeins of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, but I'm sure you guys know how it goes. I'm sad that I missed the pattern selection, but I had promised to meet my mom.

I'm on the last clue of the mystery shawl. My goal has been to knit 4 rounds a night. At this rate I'll be done in a week.

Hat     31 March, 2006, 12:18 am

I forgot the name of this hat but the pattern was free so if anyone wants it, I'll peak at the printout and find the link. I like it. It's a tad large but not bad for um, not swatching.. That's Knit Picks Merino Style leftover from my scarf, I think the color is Dusk. The beads are size E.

That leaves two shawls, an afghan, and a baby sweater for WIPs. I can't remember what needle size I was using for the baby sweater and at this point I'm thinking I don't want to do that seaming/weaving/buttons thing in the near future so I will probably rip it out and do hats or booties or something.

I'm halfway through clue 4 on the MS. Whoop! I'd like to finish the clue this weekend but we might be headed out of town tomorrow. Did I mention I only worked 8 hours this week? Haha. I asked the staffing agency to keep an eye out. Though, a great week to have off, weather-wise.

When I found out I would be off today I scheduled that certification test I've been studying for. I leave in less than an hour. Depending on my mood (wish me luck?) and how long it takes, I plan to stop at a nearby yarn shop.

I've heard Knit Picks is reworking their sock yarn. I was disappointed they're discontinuing the colors I liked and bringing in colors I didn't like, then happy to sale prices, then rather neutral as I realized #1 I don't like handwashing (not handwashing itself, but the fact that things just don't get very clean) and #2 The socks I've made so far from their merino are pilling and felted on the bottom and I've only worn them several times and followed washing directions. So no stock-piling for me.

Whew, awfully long winded for what was to be a quick post.

Oldest UFO     29 March, 2006, 02:29 pm

This is my oldest UFO. Well, not anymore but.. As far as I can remember I packed it away two Thanksgivings ago. I pulled it out Monday, added button loops and buttons and sewed in 20 (20!! You can bet I learned to leave a long tail for seaming.) ends. It was destined for a drop box at my LYS and they closed last year. I will be mailing it away. I think it's kinda cute. I think it'd be neat to rework the pattern a bit to eliminate some seams. The easiest and obvious being the two side seams. The shoulders could have been 3-needle-bind-off'ed. I imagine the hood could have been short-rowed.

So that leaves 5 WIPs, still.

Danger: Way Off Topic Venting     28 March, 2006, 11:12 pm
'cause it's that kind of day and my post just got eaten by Firefox. You are not supposed to mysteriously close. You are better than Internet Explorer. What was that?!

Ever see Zeal.com? Probably not. Anyway, don't waste your time going there. It used to be a human-edited directory. But they made our 5 years or so of work disappear in like 2 seconds today. And they didn't even bother to e-mail us. Looksmart, I love you. Ass-monkey. I passed your test. I learned your standards and you disposed of my quality work like a pile of dog crap. You used me.

Hellooo-o jobs. Where are you? *knock knock* Not in Wisconsin, not in Chicago.. anywhere? I'm this close to applying for a customer service job because my $6.50/hour part time position uh, isn't cutting it. Especially when we run out of work and are told not to come in. Not that I mind. In fact, most days I absolutely dread going to work. Argh!!

But at least it finally looks like spring in these parts. We touched 50 degrees for a short time today. I started a beaded hat Sunday. I didn't have the required circs or dpns and I was getting bummed about having to spend my little knitting $ on needles when I realized my mom had just purchased the Needlemaster set from Hobby Lobby. Score!

So. I'm going to pop in an old favorite like Napoleon Dynamite or Office Space and study some because I finally purchased my exam voucher. Maybe one of these days I'll schedule the thing and take it. *snort*

Pictures     26 March, 2006, 00:27 am

Finished baby ripple afghan. That's Lion Brand's Pound of Love. It's about 32" square. I substituted kfb where yarnovers were supposed to be to make it less holy. Still gotta throw it in the wash and drop it off for Project Linus.

Plain socks in Opal Mosaic. I was worried about running out of yarn but there's a good amount left. Back to the mystery shawl.

Spring has sprung, at least mentally and on the calendar. (Not necessarily weather-wise, but anyway.) I was in the mood to de-clutter my room today so I pulled out all the leftover balls of yarn and sorted into a pile to give away and a pile that I started working into granny squares. I got a few of those done. Now I need to pick up some black yarn to go with the smallest balls. But the good news - I can very, very nearly fit all of my yarn into 4 under-the-bed boxes!

In other spring news, my "baby" orchids have been showing signs of growth and I impulsively went searching for new babies on eBay. Someone else won the flask I wanted, so I settled on some potted babies. Then I was offered a duplicate of the flask I really wanted. So now I need to make room for more babies, and I think I pretty well spent this month's yarn budget on um, orchids.. But that's okay. 'Cause I don't need any yarn, and it's almost April anyway.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
