Sweater
6 May, 2006, 04:09 pm
Woohoo! I cast off on my first sweater this morning. It soaked and made purple soup and is now drying. I made feeble attempts at blocking but just don't have a big enough space I can use. It wasn't the big scary thing I feared it might be. :)
I will swatch for Pomatomus later with some Twinkletoes methinks.

Updates n Stuff
3 May, 2006, 09:29 am
Nothing too exciting.. I'm onto the last half of the last sleeve of my sweater so hopefully it'll be finished up by the end of this coming weekend. My "vacation" from work has continued. Needless to say I'm getting bored and irritable. It's been like a week and a half. Certainly makes my last two weeks here zip by..haha. Work is expected for tomorrow, but I've heard that before :)
I found myself filling a virtual shopping cart with sock yarn last night. Fortunately it didn't take me long to realize I don't _need_ any more sock yarn right now so I left it there.
I'm getting excited to start/go back to my internship. Yep, it's official. Orientation (again!) is on Monday. I'm an intern, again. Oh well. Experience is experience. And that car shopping? Heh, not happening. Got shot down at the credit union for a reason I hadn't expected - not working my currect job long enough. Obviously that's one I cannot rectify soon, probably not until next year. Oh well. Things will work out.

Vacation Time?
26 April, 2006, 09:58 am
Well, not really. Work has been cancelled for the rest of the week. Woohoo! Yesterday as well, so I journeyed to an orchid store (shop? I dunno). It was very impressive, not that I have much to compare to. I needed supplies and it cost as much to ship them as the two and a half gallons of gas I needed to get there. I know, ridiculous.
Then I finished the back and front of my sweater. I followed the directions and ended up with a funny ridge at the 3 needle bind off - I think because there's a garter ridge at the end of a whole bunch of stockinette right before the bind off. Anyway, I asked my mother to try it on so I could see if it would look alright on a real person. All that's left is the sleeves so I'm thinking ahead to what's next. For now it would seem Pomatomus in some Twinkletoes sounds like a good idea.
My start date at the other job is tentatively set for a week and a half from now but I'm still waiting for confirmation. I may just have another vacation here..haha.

Pictures
22 April, 2006, 10:57 am
But first, that good phone call I mentioned? I gave my notice yesterday at work 'cause I'm going back to my internship. It's not permanent but it is full time and it does pay almost twice as much as I am making now and it will be invaluable experience. Every time I think about it I get so excited. I've started the process of car shopping. I either need to dump s'more money into my car or move on and I'm leaning toward a less abused vehicle. Bleh, hate commuting ~.~ Onto the knitting!
This is the finished Mystery Shawl (#3). It's linked to a bigger picture. This is my biggest project so far, so it needed a big picture..hehe.
That's some mystery wool. It's about 37" square and 52" across the diagonal. With that in mind I think it will be a tablecloth :) It doesn't feel good to the touch, either.
This is my stash enhancement from a couple weeks ago. Lang Ja Woll, Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, Opal Dreamcatcher, and Opal Rainforest in Parrot. All except the Dreamcatcher came from Yarns by Design. Mm, yummy. I haven't touched any of it yet.
I joined a mini sock swap for a break from my sweater and this is what I have so far. So fast, about an hour per sock! These fit on my index finger. Whew, I always forget how much I dislike DPNs until I use them. Gotta say, these bamboo jobbies are much easier to handle than metal.
This is the sweater so far. I'm just to starting the armholes. I measured one of my sweaters to get my favored length and realized I may have chosen the wrong size. Oh well, possibly-too-big is better than possibly-too-small.

Happy Easter!
16 April, 2006, 05:52 pm
Hope y'all are having a great Easter! My mom made a really nice meal and most of the immediate family was over. It was a really relaxing day.
I got around to blocking my shawl..on the kitchen floor. I employed a lot of different objects hanging around the house to get it done, but I like it. Unfortunately, it didn't soften much and I don't think it's as big as I'd like it. I will take a picture for next post after I weave the ends in.
The sweater is coming along. I'm using this pattern and the directions aren't the clearest. Neither is the picture. I think it will be okay though. I also got a couple rows in on the neglected Flower Basket Shawl. I'm itching to start another pair of socks but want to get something finished first. And I'm a lo-ong way off. :)
The Easter bunny was good to us and I've had more than my fair share of jelly beans and malted eggs today.

Success
13 April, 2006, 07:44 pm
In swatching, that is. Finally got where I need to be on the third try so I will cast on tonight. So far I'm planning to do the back and front at the same time. And tomorrow's a half day of work. Yay! But my baby orchids came today and I still need to pot up one bunch. And I guess I'm doing the egg coloring this year. So it won't be allll knitting. Speaking of work, today sucked pretty darn badly.
Still waiting on the follow-up phone call from last week. Sounds like I won't hear anything till next week. :\ What the heck, I've waited months, I can wait another week.

Swatching - Ugh!
12 April, 2006, 03:17 pm
I did two swatches for my sweater, one with size 8 needles and the other size 7s. Before washing, the size 8 swatch was right on and the size 7 swatch was a little smaller than the target. After washing and drying, they both stretched and they are now both the same size - that is, too big. Here we go again with the size 6s. *pout* I'm this close to starting a pair of socks just to have some mindless knitting.
