Happy June!
2 June, 2006, 11:07 pm
Yeesh, where did the time go? Pomatomus is back on the needles! I've heard from a couple folks that this stitch pattern um.. sucks in or what-not so yes, 72 stitches probably really are needed. I plan to get some big knitting done this weekend. (Read: more than I have all week, maybe a few inches of cuff..haha)
Pretty tired lately. I get myself into bed by 9:30 but then I make the mistake of turning on the tv and inevitably something good is _finally_ on. Work has been a bit frustrating. I expect things to improve next week. Inadequate amounts of sleep aren't really helping.
The new Six Sox socks are out. They don't strike me and I have other stuff I'd like to get done so I think I will pass. Yeah, June already? The 4th mystery shawl starts this month, methinks. And my leaf lace shawl is still on the needles.. Must finish leaf lace shawl first.

3.) Use the song title as the answer
4.) NO CHEATING!!! What you get is what you get!
1) How am I feeling today?
Bem Bem Maria - Gypsy Kings
2) Where will I get married?
She is - The Fray
3) What is my best friend’s theme song?
Radios in Heaven - Plain White Ts
4) What is/was high school like?
Wonderful - Everclear (*snort*)
5) What is the best thing about me?
Faster - Plain White Ts
6)How is today going to be?
Take Me Away - Lifehouse
7) What is in store for this weekend?
I Will Buy You a New Life - Everclear
8) What song describes my parents?

16) Will I ever have children?
Where'd You Go - Fort Miner (oh boy..)
17) What is some good advice?
Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks - Panic at the Disco
18) What do I think my current theme song is?
Wash - Lifehouse
19) What does everyone else think my current theme song is?

20) What type of men/women do you like?

22) What should I do with my love life?
Santa Monica - Everclear
24) Where will you live?

25) What will your dying words be?
I Write Sins, Not Tragedies - Panic at the Disco
26) How’s your day going so far?
Lie to Me - Daniel Powder
27) How’s your love life?
Am I Ever Gonna Find Out - Lifehouse
Is it a sign that two of my 60 songs are titled "Take Me Away?" Haha! (Fear not, I'm slowly adding more.) Other than that, things according to the mp3 player are looking pretty gray. At least high school was good, no?

Socks
29 May, 2006, 10:08 am
Finally, a knit picture!
These are made from Sockotta. On the snug side so I think they'll be handwashed. Basic rib. I recall asking if there was enough for a pair in one ball when I bought this yarn and they suggested using a couple less stitches. Phew, glad I didn't do that. I did make them shorties, just in case. I had some leftover, prolly could have been a tad longer.
I'm not sure if I'm ready for Pomatomus yet. Maybe I will work a baby sweater in between. Speaking of sweaters, I made one last attempt at seaming mine and sewed either the front to the front or the back to the back. (Doesn't really matter now, huh?) This time I'm truly done. The selvedge edges are starting to felt from ripping it. Maybe I'll toss it in the washer and sew up some catnip pillows for the shelter or something.
I read the Da Vinci Code last week. Really ate into my knitting time but I had most of it read in two or three evenings. Good read, the first book I've read in probably a few years. I'm interested in how much is fact and what was contrived for a better read. I gotta say, I don't know why some folks have their panties in such a bunch. It clearly states on the back cover "Fiction." I still like knitting better. I like to have some sorta physical result to show for my time spent when I'm done :)
There have been some interesting developments at work. You can imagine I'm hoping that leads to a better sitution for me.

Let's Make a Deal
21 May, 2006, 04:48 pm
So I was shopping (um, late birthday present to self *cough*) when I came across Furr Yarns BOGOHO sale. There will be two skeins of MaineBearSOX1 on their way to my doorstep this week. I don't know about y'all but I don't really need two pairs of socks in the exact same colorway. So here's the thing. If someone's interested in purchasing a different colorway of the same yarn (or maybe you already have?) we could swap the extra skein. I chose the Blue Knight colors shown here. If no one's interested I'll offer it up for sale later. Leave a comment or drop an email - m e @ r m i l y . c o m
I won't speak of the sock yarn I bought here. Psst, free shipping through the 25th. Haven't received it yet but you'll get a picture and commentary when I do. :)

Happy Birthday to Me
20 May, 2006, 09:47 am
Yep, that's about all I got. It was yesterday. Very lovely. My mother got me a rose and I picked out my present, an mp3 player. Cake was fantastic. Work went fast, unfortunately like half the department was gone. They'll find dry cupcakes when they come back on Monday..hehe.
I pulled out some Sockotta and started some plain ol' ribbed socks. Now I'm ready for Pomatomus again, so if I can just get these finished....
That sweater? I started again. This time was better but I'm soo tempted to never touch it again. I think it's my anal-ness regarding numbers. If there are the exact same number of rows in each of the pieces I'm lining up, then I should be able to match them row for row. Duh. But I can't. So apparently I'm doing something wrong..lol. Maybe I need better glasses. What I'd really like to do is forget the whole thing ever happened and restart my sleeveless cardigan :D
So I joined this group, Online Angels originally because I wanted to use up some singleton balls of yarn and they take just about everything and find a good use for it. But now I found myself coming to the end of my singleton stash thinkin' "I need more crappy acrlyic yarn!" Yeah, great revelation after like months of trying to rid my stash of it. So anyway, I went to this liquidation place and chose a number of Redheart and friends type crappy acrylic. I've been making squares, though I think I'll start a baby sweater one of these days. So far I've done 80 squares, 40 that have been sent away and 40 that are waiting to have ends woven it. It really gives me warm fuzzies, and lines up with one of my goals from the beginning of the year - volunteering more.
Work is going swell.

Sweater Progress
14 May, 2006, 10:17 am
I started seaming my sweater with the mattress stitch and it was actually looking decent except I managed to stretch the ribbing on one side of the sleeve past the the other so they didn't line up. I was _very_ frustrated so I pulled it out and left it laying. I think I'll give it another go today. First I will count rows and baste the thing together so I will know if I'm off as I'm matching up rows.
So when that was being obnoxious I went to my Pomatomas socks. Yeah, I accidentally pulled a needle out of one sock and didn't have the patience to get the YOs and decreases and whatever back onto the needle. Those are balls of string now. I should have at least tried them on before ripping. 72 stitches seems like a lot to me. The ribbing was loose and not much for ribbing - is that because of the twisted rib or # of stitches? I need to get out a ruler for my 64-stitch socks and check the gauge and go from there.
Work is going well. There were a number of password/security issues. Between adjusting to full-time + a commute and getting over those hurdles.. I just think it's funny. I'm sure the day after I left last year they had all my account access cut off. And now it's taking like, a couple weeks to turn things back on. But my first tasks have been fixing bugs or adding features to my "babies" of last summer so that's been a real trip. This is the first programming I've done that's actually been used, besides web sites n all.
