Mystery Stole     15 July, 2006, 10:54 am
Pluggin' along. I'm up to row 37 or something on the second go-round of the first clue. The first time I worked the second side from the cast-on I ripped it out. I worked from a Knitty article that said to use two needles held together, and promised it wouldn't be too loose. Well you could totally see the cast on. The stitches were like three times as high as the normal rows and it looked like a whole row of YOs. I tightened each stitch by hand after I ripped and it looks much better. Looking forward to the next clue.

I'm kinda moody lately. It's not helped along by my insurance company, or the doctor's office, which I have to visit again on Monday. The insurance company is basically working itself out of paying for much, and the doctor's office doesn't seem to want to have to go through the hoops to get them to. Blah blah blah. So in the end I spend two months worth of salary to be told I could use a generic version of an over-the-counter drug (which is more expensive than the name brand version that you can get at Wal-mart) which also didn't seem to work as well. And the insurance company covers nothing. What a complete and total waste of my time. It just ticks me off. When my insurance company refers to educating consumers, it just means letting them know they won't pay for anything expensive so just forget it. I feel smarter already.

Sorry. That had nothing to do with knitting. Furthermore, the camera is MIA again so there will be no pictures.

Mystery Stole     9 July, 2006, 09:39 am
I finished row 30 or so of the first clue, which consists of 50 rows. I had to stop there as my wrists were hurting. I think it's time to find the circular needle. After that I think I'll go back and repeat on the other side, and hopefully be finished by Friday. I made a boo-boo somewhere and was short a stitch. I fudged that and had one too many stitches on the next row. Fudged that and I'm back on track. Hm, maybe I should be using lifelines?

I had my car checked out yesterday and they sent me on my way with a very nice check. They were very friendly and it was all very painless. You can imagine the temptation to go yarn shopping. I think I'll leave it to one or two skeins of Socks That Rock, which I've been meaning to try. I've also been wanting a ballwinder, but I'm thinking A) I don't need another gadget sitting around and B) I don't actually knit enough to have to wind that many balls of yarn. But now's the time to decide. Last I checked they were on sale at JoAnns with a coupon for free shipping. The rest will be dutifully stashed away.

Test Knitting     2 July, 2006, 08:45 am
A call for test knitters came out yesterday and it sounded like fun soo.. I'm sure you can imagine what the pattern is for. I've actually never had more than a pair on the needles at once. But the mystery stole along starts Friday and I haven't even wound my yarn into balls and swatched yet! Good thing we got a day off this week. Swatch, test knit, waffle socks, or leaf lace shawl? Hmm!

We got hail last night. It damaged the cars. I think I have pretty good insurance yet so we'll see.. Sounds like a pain in the back side though :)

Titles, uck. Who needs 'em? Still no news at work. Due to some issues I basically had no work to do all week. L-ooo-ng week. It was sitting there waiting for me but I did not have access to it. So hard!! I'm not the sort of person to sit around doing absolutely nothing. Then again, who is?

Not much in knitting. I started a pair of Blueberry Waffle socks from some of Tess' Designer Yarns. Supersocks or something. It is so nice. Feels kinda like LL Shepherd Sock to me with a nicer price tag. *nods* The bad part is the website has terribly few pictures and you can't order online. Can you imagine? What did I do before the Internet? I got this stuff at Stitches Midwest last year. As usual, I'm wishing I had picked up a couple more skeins..

I only spent half my yarn budget in June. I think we'll leave it that way. Welcome to the adult world of medical bills and student loan payments. They all hit me in the space of two weeks. Cruel, cruel world. Haha! I'm so very thankful that I have a decent paying job for the moment.

I've been crocheting granny squares. And I followed a crochet pattern to make booties! I was so proud of myself. Crocheting seems so much harder to me. I think 'cause you have to learn to read your stitches if you wanna follow along. I don't like them as much as the knit booties but they are faster. Oo, and I finished another repeat on the leaf lace shawl. Um, only 11 to go.

Pictures     24 June, 2006, 05:45 pm

Pomatomus is (are?) finished! I was trying to get a shot of the cuff.. The colors are closer to the last picture I took. The yarn is Twinkletoes from Over the Rainbow on eBay. The color is Blue-something. Blue Moon? Bluebird?

These came in the mail today. Yum! Interlacements Tiny Toes in Stained Glass and African Violet. We got an incredibly good price on this stuff, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford four skeins.. As you can imagine I wish I had gotten more, at that price :) Hope it comes up again in the yarn co-op.

This is the yarn I dyed for the second mystery stole. I used royal blue Wilton's.. um.. icing dye or something like that. I didn't pre-treat with vinegar in hopes that I would get varied coloring, and it seems to have worked pretty well. I know, the picture is not so great. It's outside in hopes that it will dry faster, as it's been drying for nearly a week. It is mostly blue with some bits of purple. I like it, I just hope the color sticks when it comes to blocking. I did splotch one of my mother's good towels and one of my favorite t-shirts, so I'm not sure this adventure was any cheaper than buying yarn. Although, that's my fault.

Now to concentrate on the leaf lace shawl.. No news at work. It's so hard. I am feeling much better though.

I     18 June, 2006, 08:48 am
Yeah, it's been awhile hasn't it? I have excuses. *nods* I've been doing long days at work in order to get to some appointments the past couple weeks. That was much less than fun. Friday I came home sick from work. I'm still trying to figure out if I have some sorta bug or if I'm just having funky reactions to new meds. Boy am I ready for a normal week. Did I mention I'm trying to get hired permanantly? I just hope they'll remember last summer more than this summer 'cause this is totally not me to be rearranging schedules and being sick n such like stuff.

Anywho, in knitting news, I finished the cuff of Pomatomus and passed the gusset. I mis-read the pattern and only repeated twice instead of three times, but that's alright. Yes, I needed 72 stitches even though I normally use 64.

I love how the yarn is working with the pattern.

I joined the mystery stole along. I was still considering the next mystery shawl along but I think I will pass for now. For some reason it seems like a stole is a smaller project, heh. Plus I've never made a stole and I have three and a half shawls. I'm still only on the 5th pattern repeat of like 15 or 20 on my leaf lace shawl. I think I mentioned I really like how it's coming along but I need to get it onto a circular. I hate buying needles. It's like "wasting" money on tools when you could be buying more glorious material. Speaking of materials, I filled up a shopping cart at Little Knits but emptied it out. Hrmpf on minimum orders.

Oh, my point. I have a cone of gray wool hanging about. The plan for today is to wind and weigh a big enough hank for the stole and then dye it. I'm thinking dark blue. Now to remember the rubber gloves.

Helloo-o Sock Yarn     4 June, 2006, 11:42 am

This is the results of my shopping the past couple of weeks.

Regia Silk Shine is on the left, couldn't resist a good deal on eBay. MaineBearSOX1 in Blue Knight from Furryans is next. Next to that is a skein of handpainted from eBay. Last is two skeins of handpainted from Etsy (free shipping, who am I to resist?).

It doesn't include a two skeins of Regia I got for 6 bucks (a steal, no?) and a ball of Opal that should be arriving shortly. I feel, um, guilty. Mostly because I've been maintaining a stash of less than 100 balls/skeins/whatever of yarn total. And this sends me over a bit. Guess I'll just have to knit more.

Hi! I live with my cat and a crabby parrotlet. Once in awhile I try to crochet but I find knitting much easier.
