Time
14 December, 2006, 10:10 pm
Has it been a week already? Where does the time go..
My favorite time of year! I like baking most but with no one but me to eat the results, there isn't much happening here. I did gingerbread boys last weekend and covered some pretzels tonight. I'm planning on sugar cookies tomorrow and covered oreos next week and that'll be it. I was able to give most of the gingerbread boys away so there's room in the freezer for the cut-outs :D Some of the covered stuff will be going to work so that'll help too.
My kitty is sick again. He hid it pretty well, except for a persisent sneeze. The pills this time are fewer and further between, yay! Sneezes were gone on the second day so that's a good sign methinks.
I finished a sleeve, slightly wonky looking and not quite as I planned. I'm thinking it will still keep a kid warm, though. Onto the second sleeve before I change my mind and start ripping.
I actually had work this week so the days flew by. I don't think I'll be so lucky tomorrow, but that's okay.

My senior's socks are finished and since I thought they were due Friday, they went off without a picture. They were due today and by the time I got 'em washed and dried, I had to run to get to the store before it closed.
But I shall distract you with other pictures :D
This was headbutting me very persistently at 4am this morning. It was cold. Very cold. He wanted under the covers.
This appeared at my door Monday. Everyone had one. It was quite the hallway view. Made my day..
My first tree. I still have some things to learn about putting up trees.
You'll notice there are no shiny breakable pretty bulbs yet, both because I want to make sure it won't be falling ehm, again, and I'm not sure how furrball likes shiny balls.
So, I'm working on a dishcloth that I think was supposed to be sent off by tomorrow. Then it's back to the sleeveless sweater.

Progress
2 December, 2006, 07:53 pm
Hrm, I wrote up a post yesterday and somehow it's not here today. Perhaps I forgot to hit the "Post" button?
These are the socks, except they're farther along today. I'm still debating how long to make them. I thought about 11" for the average man foot? Stats I saw were 10.53" so that gives a little extra. In that case I have 3 inches left before decreases. Woohoo!
Smokey was helping today by chewing on the yarn as it came out of the ball, tension I guess. But he eventually tired.
At knit night I agreed to teach a magic loop class. This could get interesting.. But I'm really excited.

Yes, There Has Been Knitting
22 November, 2006, 07:48 pm
Mittens! They're big but I purposely went up a needle size 'cause last time the mitten I made with this pattern was tight. Now they may be just a tad too big. Maybe I'll put them in the wash and shrink 'em a bit.
Let's see. The shawl is still on the needles. There's also a plain vanilla winter hat that just needs the decreases. That purple sweater is only waiting for sleeves.
I picked a name off the senior tree yesterday. Ehm, I purposely poked around for a paper ornament that said socks. :D If you asked for gifts at Christmas, how sad would it be if you asked for gloves, a hat, and socks? Yeahhh.. I ordered yarn to knit the socks and I'll knit the hat if I have time. He also asked for cologne, but I will get smellies and gloves from the store. I think it would be nice if they put sizes if socks are listed, no? I couldn't imagine being in the position where socks and a hat were among the top 4 things I wanted from Santa.

Oookay, they suck, please pretend 'cause the batteries are dead.
These are the socks. I think the short row heels make them sorta funny looking. That is Knit Picks' Essential, in Fawn I think.
The stole. It wasn't that wonky looking when I blocked it.. *shrugs* Fatty-kins is sitting on the good part. Maybe I can take another pic when I get the ends woven in and have room to spread 'er out. That is mystery wool dyed with Wilton's icing coloring in royal blue.
The cat was attempting to sleep _on_ my head at 2am this morning. I know I'm a light sleeper but I think 16 pounds on a head would wake most up?

Yarn Shopping
4 November, 2006, 09:54 pm
One of my goals at the beginning of the year was to knit my first sweater (for me, baby sweaters don't count). I knit my first sweater but never got it seamed and all that jazz. Although I swatched, it stretched more than I expected after washing so I wasn't really pleased with that. Then I tried seaming two or three times and I wasn't satisfied. And every time I pulled out my seaming, it felted a little more. So I started taking it apart and making it into that seamless kid-sized sweater in the post below.
Anywho, I just ordered some yarn on Webs for another go, with a Knitting Pure & Simple pattern I recently got. Seamless, superwash, what could possibly go wrong? Except I'm wary about colors. If it weren't such a deal (cheaper than Knit Picks superwash wool, even with shipping) I wouldn't have bothered with the limited colors. I don't know if it's 'cause of my laptop or what but the colors look quite a bit different between Webs' site and Red Needle Yarns' site. And those are the only pictures I can find. I only hope when it turns up, it's something I like :)
I finished the socks except for weaving ends in. Picture next time.
Oh! I blocked my stole last weekend and I will bring it home tomorrow. I didn't have pins so I hope that worked out..
Down to the neglected shawl and the little sweater. Cast on more socks or a pair of mittens? Hm..
In case you're wondering, the cat is still here and he hasn't gotten me since last weekend. I'm working on resisting the urge to pet his fluffy underside. It's hard.

Urgh
28 October, 2006, 10:37 am
I sat down to post and the cat walked over and bit my arm out of the blue, so I yelled at him and he bit me again. This after he attacked my hand on Thursday night. (I did not yell then, this yelling is something new I'm trying since backing off doesn't work.) I don't know what to do. I can't imagine he lived with a two year old. I thought I had it figured out, I thought he bit me when I touched his udder or pet his belly.. I'm thinking maybe I'll call the shelter when they open. Or the vet? I dunno. He checked out fine at the beginning of October when he was in for shots, which was shortly after he last bit me..
Thanks bunches Jill for the sweater pattern generator thing-a-ma-jig!
Here's the start. I think it's a size 4. I grabbed some measurements from another pattern since I don't have a kid around.
It was a good mail week. Three skeins from Socks that Fit. We did a group buy and got a good price, although they have good prices to begin with. The purple is a blend of a couple purples, light, medium, and dark. The other two are just one color tonally died. Yum yum, superwash. And a skein of Socks that Rock. It's sorta interesting. I distinctly remember fondling this stuff at Stitches Midwest last year and thinking it was alright, but not worth the price tag, to me. But with almost everyone raving about it, I figured I would try one skein. That is Romancing the Stone.
Those are boring socks. Blueberry Waffle pattern with Knit Picks Essential. I originally got the yarn for myself so I would have handknits to wear to work. But these are for grandma. Mom said no funky colors. *yawn* :)
